I am trying to find out about two different 24" widescreen Acer LCDs, so I can make a dicision. I am not a gamer.

One is the AL2416w Bsd

The 2nd is the x243w

They both have pretty much the same specs. The only difference that I can see, in the specs, is that the x243w has a claimed contrast ratio of 3000:1 vs the the 2416W's contrast ration of 1000:1.

I purchased the AL2416W, on Thursday, for $250 ( after instant $110 off and an $80 rebate ), at the CompUSA sale.
My buddy purchased the x243W for $250, ( in a Black Weekend sale involvling rebates ), at Office Depot.

There may be some more left at that place, he got it late Friday. Would the contrast ratio thing be enough to get the x243W and return the AL2416W.

There is plenty of info on the AL2416W out on the internet. I can find hardly any on the X243W.

Looks like the AL2416W uses analog input only according to behardware.com ?
6ms response and 6-bit color.

X243W is a TN panel and does not give 8-bit color, only 6-bit, so dithering/banding will be visible in some instances. 5ms response.

Its down to "nits" and contrast really.. which ever one offers better "nights" to contrast ratio is probably the better one, though if its true the AL2416W is VGA only then i'd toss it.

This AL2416W is the AL2416W Bsd which does have DVI input.
Damn, info on the X243W is so skimpy.

My buddy is saying yeah, but look at the contrast ratio of the X243W, 3000:1 vs 1000:1 of the AL2416.

But I know that is not everything. There is image quality and about 15 other factors to look into.

Unless I hear something compelling, in the next two or three hours, I'm gonna keep the AL2416W Bsd and not return it/pickup the X243W model.

I knew, going in, that at a $250 final price I wasn't getting the best WS LCD out there. Just one that will probably do me fine until Display Port, and whatever the next few years brings, comes along.

I'm so tired of mindscrewing over this since talking to him yesterday. I want to open this ( there is a 15% restocking fee IF opened ), or return it. I'll do one or the other in the next few hours.

I want to enjoy it. Whatever it is. I'm leaning towards keeping this one ( if only because so little is known of the X243S ).

A contrast ratio over 1000 or 1200 is going to be "dynamic" contrast ratio. Don't worry about it, its a marketing tactic.

Yeah when I stepped up to 24", I had to move it further back to avoid eye-aches and nausea from being way too close.

Definitely pushed it further back. Agreed. It was just occupying to much of my field of vision.

Actually, I'm delighted with the 60". Now that they swapped out the XBR 1 Light Engine and put in the XBR 2 Light Engine the discoloration is gone and the picture looks as clear as ever. As it is I sit 13' from that screen.

Ok, confession time. When they came out with the new 70" SXRD I did incur some lust. Tried to figure out who I could sell my 60" to. Then I looked at what they wanted for it and reality and sense took hold.
