Hi (new to this) just got an old vapochill which has been modded to 180w after 10mins of being switched on (head just hanging) temp controller say -7 took 10 mins to get to that, i was expecting to much lower temps than that?

Something isn't right definitely.

does the fan spinn?
if it does there is proberbly two possibilitys, a leak or a bad compressor, I guess it's a leak then.

Well obviously compressor is running for one. (how well? no idea).
Few scenarios I can think of.

1) Gas leak. Look around for oily joint, etc. (condenser would be not even warm to touch) Prime suspect of such are, any brazed joints, evaporator, especially suction line brazed joint).

2) Blocked cap tubing. Condenser would be EXREMELY hot if such is case after running it for short amount of time.

3) Compressor valve worn out. Would be sort of similar to gas leak in some simple diagnostics you could do.

Does condenser fan run?

ok...i got to -28 after removing the sleeving and adjusting the temp monitor wires, they probably were not touching the head properly! however is -28 expected?

Nope... it isn't. Something is still wrong. Fan running?

yeap fans running...other than that i don't really know what im looking for,
brazing im assuming its quite an ugly joint, theres definitly a joint that isn't as nice looking as the rest, oil leakage...can't see any, gas leak? would i be able to tell?

its sort of stablized at -25

what temprobe are you measuring with?

try to borrow a proper thermometer and measure the temp.

using the probe that comes with vapo..turned it on its got to -33 now...this probe has a T1=max-30 then it clicks??
just to check do these units need to rest before use after transit...

Why don't you let it sit for next 6-8 hours and than try again?

Hi still dont think -40 is right mine hits -55 using the vapochills probe.
What vapochill do you have?

well it seems like the tempprobe is a little damaged. I've seen suck "flipper" with vapos before when the tempprobe is a bit messy. Try to replace it with another resistor. I've tried with 10K ohm ntc resistor and it was just 4-5K different between real temp and vapo temp in idle and about 1-2K in -25 to -35*c range.

Im thinking this is maybe the real temp due to this chart:

XE – BD35F compressor – should reach about -35C with the evap hanging free
PE – BD50F compressor – should reach about -32C with the evap hanging free
SE – BD35F compressor – should reach about -25C with the evap hanging free
Classic – BD35F compressor – should reach about -17C with the evap.

This is an old unit im not sure which 1 it is though?

Oh... nevermind, we were thinking you had Vapochill LS whole time.
Sounds good to me than :P
