View Full Version : Not sure what to choose..

I'm looking for ideas on what to do.

My eVGA board just sorta bit the dust. LAN died and all. Everything else works. I plan on keeping my memory and CPU. 4x1GB G.Skill HZ and Q6600 G0

I do however want a new board, but I also want SLI. I don't want another 88800GTX, but I do want to take my hand in the 8800GTS's (G92). Possibly the 1 GB versions.

I want a DFI X38 UT T2R board, because it looks nice, and might be able to also provide me with 3.6 GHz on my Quad and probably more.

Any part ideas on what I should get? Or wait for something? I really want to be able to play some games, as I haven't in quite a while. Such as Crysis and UT3, and COD4 on my new Samsung 245BW. It's a nice monitor...so, here's where it gets tricky.

Any ideas are welcome. I plan on redoing EVERYTHING. Including my entire waterloop, and case (probably a V2000BW).

Any solutions on this dilema?

If you want SLI your only choice is nVidia chipsets. If insist going that road then I would suggest that you wait for the new i7xx mobos.

Forget that, 780i's isn'tt much more, don't bother to wait. I would try to get eVGA to fix your mobo (is it still on warranty?) cause it just is a killermobo when it comes to SLi. I'd bet you can get some bargainprices for a new eVGA 680i also so even that's an option to think 'bout.
And the rest of the parts kick ass, good job on that one. Keep it just as it is, if you want a new case but not necessary at all.
Maybe some Q9450 (yes, supported by 680i) w/ Cryo-Z, some 150 Raptor's RAID0 and Hitachi terabytes RAID 1/5 (or SSD's)? (for something INSANE)

Thank you for those suggestions. I don't know if I can tolerate 1 video card anymore especially with all these nice games that are out. So, I'm definitely going to try and grab a couple of the G92 refreshes when they hit (1GB more than likely), and I guess i'll be keeping my 680i. I MIGHT however decide to pick up a DFI 680i LT or something...not sure yet.

Let me know what you think of that.

I might also skip watercooling and get a V2000BW, and just do high-end air.

Not sure if you can go any further with that DFI in terms of overclocking so i think you should stick with your A1.

o jeah, if you were thinking of a yorkfield on that eVGA of your, forget it. So you gotta choose SLi + Wolfdale on 680i or Yorkfield + CF on X38.

why not get the dfi and move to ati

the ati cards are slightly slower than the 8800gt but in xfire they make it up + the x38 will oc much better than anything out of nv
