How do I know if I need a voltage mod? If I overclock my memory on my 9700 pro, and it artifacts early, should I do a vmod? I know that this is a n00b question, but I was really curious. Thanks!
Welcome to the Xtreme!
Artifcats could no only occur because of lack of voltage but due to cooling. have you tried better cooling? Might be worth ago before trying a volt mod.

Yeah, I've got some ramsinks on the way, but I was jsut wondering if an increase in voltage will reduce artifacts (given proper cooling). I think that you have answered my question though! Thanks

i think its safe to do the ram mod. just throw a case fan on thoes ram chips and dont go to far over 3.0 volts.
Yeah sorry i just meant that heat could case artifacts too so try some better coolnig first but passing more volts over will help as well unless the clock your at is the farthest they will go but should go further with betetr cooling and more volts

Well, as it sits, the card is stock. The memory would only go to about 325 before I updated to the Omega 3.6 cat drivers. After that I got up to 335 without artifacts. The core overclock didn't change at all (still at 415), and the card runs great. I was just hoping to get more out of the memory. Thanks for the answers guys, and it's good to be here at Xtreme Forums!
Cheers! :toast:

cool the core better if you can i know some9700pro cores get hot enugh that they heat the memory.
Some good threads with some people sticking AMD reatil coolers on their GPU cores. DO a search and theres some good picks in the air cooling section.

I've seen it, and it is an easy mod to do. I just need a crappy cooler to cram on it. I was tinking about getting a 1u server cooler because of its low profile. I like to have a few of my PCI slots to use (hehe). *My dremel quivers in anticipation*
look out for cooljag coolers, they make loads of little coolers

BTW Rakka, there are no dumb questions.
Thats the purpose of these forums,,,,sharing info and knowledge.
No1 is born with the innate knowledge of how to overclock, well except for JC, MrIcee, Sys, and a few others that I am convinced dont really exist and are part of the Matrix. You have to pick it up with research, and asking questions...not to mention visiting one of the best forums on the Internet.
Good luck and have fun.

I don't know if this will be a big help but cooling has definitely been a huge deal with my 9500 pro. I just changed out the stock heatsink and fan with a water cooling system and the temp change has been increadible. In both cases I have had a enermax temp pasted on the otherside of the gpu (back of the card). Before I was hitting up to 70 C !!!!
Now I'm running 29.5 c   :toast: :smileysex
I believe we both have the same chip though our card is different. so I guess all this wind is saying... man these run awful hot at stock!!:p:

My motto has always been, "Don't get stuck with stock!"
It's only a matter of time before I start tweaking again. I've had a LOT to do at work lately, and I need my computer to be up and running! I'l let you guys know when I start changing things!
