View Full Version : Anybody got an "ES" E8500?
Brahmzy

I know Quads are all the rage right now, but my plan is to dump my E6600 in January for an E8500. I'm real excited about that 9.5x multi. Just picked up a P5E and some 2x2GB GSkill PC8000 for it.
Anyway, what are some of the numbers folks are getting - any ES E8500's out there? I assume 4GHz on air is certainly possible with these chips and more, right? Obviously the dual-core should OC a little higher than the Quad-Core. If my E6600 can do 3.6GHz on a P5W DH, surely 4Ghz should be cake with an E8500 on a P5E with PC8000 RAM.

Not only the great clock speeds but they will come with 6mb cache right?
What performance will that have in real over the 4mb ones?

Yep, 6MB cache. If Yorkfield's clock for clock performance over Kentsfield is any indication, Wolfdale should be from 5-30% faster than Conroe (note 30% represents DivX and other things relying heavily on SSE4 instructions). But as time goes on I'm sure the gap between Conroe and Wolfdale will widen as more apps integrate SSE4 instructions.

I hope we can expect 4,5 Ghz on Air with non ES chips

Here are some benchmarks E8400 (3.0 GHz) vs E6850:

Thats a dual core with lower TDP than the QX. I see that you are only pushing 1.52volts into it. If youve got the balls, stuff 1.65vcore into it for a short 5 minutes and you should have close to 5.0 Ghz in that chip.
I got 4.70 out of my QX on water 1.65vcore:

i dont try max FSB, but 525FSB @ stock Mobo voltages give a bluescreen @ windows bootscreen.

similiar in performance what I have seen.
Watercooling this chips and get 4.5ghz seems to be common.
The new metal gates seems to do a lot for intel.
I get my 6750 to 3800mhz and can go higher but it starts to get into limitations.
My old starting out 6600 did like 3200mhz.
(a year old)
I look forward to januari.
Just need a chip that has high multipel since they clock really well.
seems 10x might be the sweetspot.
or maybe 9.5 ones.

Thank you for your interest in Intel.
By and large we use our OEM manufacturers as beta test sites for our
new components and systems.
I am not aware of any public beta testing programs at this time. You
may want to occasionally check our
website at http://www.intel.com. This is where we have announced our
previous user programs and post the application to participate.
I hope this helps.
Again, thank you for your interest in Intel.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20071219103937_Intel_Set_to_Postpone_Introduction_ of_New_Quad_Core_Microprocessors.html
Initially Intel planned to roll-out its code-named Wolfdale and Yorkfield microprocessors that are projected to be marketed under Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme brand-names on the 10th of January, 2008. But the plans have changed and, according to a news-story at HKEPC web-site, Intel will only be able to release dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo 8000-series (Wolfdale) processors in February, while Intel Core 2 Quad 9000-series (Yorkfield) will only see the light of the day in February or March.
Hmm, I was tempting to test 1 of these because of the nice price tag lol

Unless you get a QX dont expect these kind of numbers from quads.... Dont know the multi of the cheaper quads but even at 9x ( QX default ) youll be veryyyyy lucky to hit 4.5gs .. not too many quads get to 500fsb, especially the 45nm ones....
