well, my cfx3200m2/g took a crap...worked fine for almost a year and then bam outa no where gone.

ok, well what i'm wondering is there a way/program that i can use or something i can do in order to not have to re-install windows?

basically what I have noticed, is if I try to simply replace motherboards without deleting the stuff for the current mobo under device drivers that I have to re-install windows and then install the new drivers and lose my desktop icons, shortcuts, programs in the startmenu...etc

If you plan on using motherboard with a different chipset I'd suggest uninstalling the chipset drivers first. Sometimes using the repair function w/out removing those can screw up your windows install...don't ask me how but just out of experience I've seen it happen.

Do what the others have commented about uninstalling the chipset drivers if possible (I doubt this is possible since your board is down). Are you sure your board is gone? What did it do? I have seen many a board crap out one day simply because they felt like it, without warning. Just curious what you consider "gone".

Most of these boards just needed a little CMOS clearing or other power deprivation before they came back like new.

here is how it happend: I turned it off for the night (just normal shut down and let it turn off) then the next morning I get up and go to press in the front power button and it starts to power up and then it powers right off and then my enermax 850w psu beeps at me. for a while i could just turn the psu completely off and then turn it back on and the computer would come right back on.

now, no matter what i do i try and turn it on and it immediately powers up , powers off and my psu beeps at me.

with electronics i know you can never be sure about any parts once something starts going haywire... BUT I'm pretty durn sure that its not my CPU,videocard, PSU or anything caused by a heat issue or anything. its gotta be the mobo.

right now i'm home in wilson, and EVERYTHING is unplugged, off and i'm leaving it that way, what i will do is clear the cmos when i go back up to charlotte, then plug everything in and see if it comes on, but at this point I don't want anything to do with that durn board, i want a new dependable board; my computer is used daily for school/work/ and play i do not simply use this computer for benchmarking so its gotta work and i don't mind paying the money to get it to work. and i'm tired of mobos being the issue. an MSI died on me and now this. I have a windows drive and EVERYTHING else seperate so if i need a file...i can get to it,,,, LOL
