abit Unveils IX48-MAX Motherboard Based on Intel's X48 Chipset

While abit's IX38 QuadGT has only been recently introduced to the market, the company has now unveiled its IX48-MAX motherboard based on the soon to be announced Intel X48 high-end chipset. The X48 comes with official support for upcoming (Yorkfield-based) 1600MHz front side bus processors and provides many advanced overclocking features. The IX48-MAX will be a DDR3-1600 supporting motherboard with two PCI Express 2.0 16X slots, ICH9R Southbridge, and support for XMP memory.

I like. It's abit or DFI for me.

Price Tag: $320? Silly expensive boards but looks good.

edit: PS-abit, I really like the chipset/pwm heatsinks, bonus points for that.

There is a sticker there! Pull it off, Lies!

probably because its the IX38 MAX board - basically they just changed the actual NB chip

They just can't win can they? People moan about heatpipes and people moan when they put a fan on it, what else can they do?

I like the heatpipes ... like the Asus Maximus Formula SE .. great stuff .. fans = dust and noise .. they don't belong on motherboards

Well, isnt that a sticker saying "X48" and covering "X38" sign? ASUS P5N32-E had Striker Extreme PCB and had a sticker too.

again, the chip is the exact same chip only noticeably higher bin. The board is likely the exact same board that they were developing for the IX38 MAX with x48 grade bearlake in the northbridge socket.

I like it.

Not enough to move from my Abit IP35 Pro, but I like it.

Im actually waiting for that board. Heat pipes are cool if you dont use water otherwise they are a PITA to seperate them from the SB and PWM.

I would avoid this board for Kentsfield... only 5-phase Digi-PWM... my Current DFI's 6-phase can barely handle it and newer DFI's have gone to 8-phase.

Which board(s) are 8 phase?

Looks nice, if they put a decent heatpipe system on it then it could be a real winner, Ill wait till Asus comes out with a board instead though.

Yorkfield may do ok though

Not having a heatpipe is a massive + for me. I can't stand the crazyness of asus and gigabytes monsters.

Intels retail boards also show that it's not needed and show it for what it is, marketing.

exactly, finned sinks are all that is necessary for any overclocking that anyone would be doing using air cooling, put a fan on it and you are even better. Masses of aluminum or copper just increase weight and cost of boards just to make them look cool (pun intended:p:)

I like the looks of this. No heatpipe for me is a win as well :)

I want it, but DDR3 is so expensive!

If the board clocks well on air or water, phase guys are going to love it. Look at how open the socket area is... no caps for insulation hassle.

That board demands water cooling...the NB heatsink is a little too tall...

the NB heatsink is AWESOME and i want to buy a bunch and install them on every board i touch!

Wasn't abit one of the first to do heatpipes if not the first?

Funny to think that Northbridge heatsinks are larger, better built and more powerful then CPU heatsinks were just several years ago.

What a world. :D
