Be interesting to see if Alienware's new notebooks suck as bad as the last batch of 5500, 5550, 5700, 5750, and 5790 (all Uniwill P71 and P72 chassis) did.

they are going to pretty much double performance to most previous cards and this is supposed to be a 40W TDP chip so very nice indeed >> this would mean possible 15.4" mainstream gaming machines as well

but probably mainly 17"

Sounds like COD4 on the road is a reality for me now! *waits eagerly* Slightly off topic, but does DAMIT have something in the wings to counter this offering? 40w tdp is attractive.

How much power will it suck? Not to mention advertising it for Crysis is just going to disappoint alot of people who actually buys the notebook hoping it would play the game in high setting and decent resolution.

if it pulls 10k 3d06 then crysis will be ok. not great, but ok.

im thinking in Xp it would pull crysis at 1680x1050 (15.4inch wide screen) maxed out (no AA of course) might need a tad of overclocking:D thats not to shabby for a notebook at all. and the SLI ones will be smoking fast.

Probably not, looking at the specs I would say that the 8800M GTX is slightly slower than the current 8800GTS G80, so chances are they can only manage those resolution at medium settings.

yes... but look at the stream processors... 96 vs 64... and the texture fill rate, of 24.0 vs 16.0 .... as well, these can run sli, pc microworks has released one i believe. So the slower clocks = less tdp.. if you hack up your chassis, and air cool, you can ramp up the clocks i m sure.

when I was at a Dell booth in a US shopping mall last summer I chatted with a Dell-guy that told me a notebook 8800GTX was coming. Didn't believe him because of heat issues with G80, those guys know stuff early mannn.

those are based on G92, aren't they? wouldn't make much sense using a 80 nm chip in a notebook when there are 65 nm chips available...

8800M GTS? 64 shaders? Why is there no corresponding desktop part to this? :D

Notebooks have more options. The 15.4" we just ordered will be coming with a 1440x900 screen. We also had the option of 1680x1050. 1920x1200 is available on 17" units.

15.4inch notebook will not have any kind of 8800s. why? 15.4inch cant even handle 7900gtx.

well my 1950xtx is playable with most settings on med and some on high at that res so if you overclock the Gpu and mem a tad in the notebook you should be able to run all on high with the exception of say object detail. but it's still a great GPU for a notebook. and i would think a 15.4 inch lappy could handle it considering 17 inch ones can take dual cards and a quad core cpu.

From what I read it will be mainly meant for 17" laptops, but we will probably see someone make one work in a 15.4". The reason is its size is hard to fit in the chassis, and you need more room for cooling the beast.

The new Alienware 15.4" refresh will support a single 8800m gtx, the 17" will sport two.

TrustedReviews has a review of a notebook sporting one of these

http://www.trustedreviews.com/notebooks/review/2007/11/22/Rock-Xtreme-770-T7800-8800/p1

IMO the review could have been improved with more info on temps, battery life, etc...

ooo nice. maybe its time to get a laptop and dishout 3000bux. the last time i checked the best notebook gpu was only 8600gt which is much much slower. nvidia must be getting good with mobile gpus.

hopefully dell will make them 2 and not make it exclusive only for alienware.

No, the best 15.4" laptop GPU is the 8600M GT. There are faster cards in the larger notebooks.

thats what i meant. 7950gtx is fastest followed by 8700. i owned the dell m1710 for awhile, 7950gtx is not leet enough for default res 19*12.

8800gtx will do well on 16*10 15.4inch
