View Full Version : Why I will never buy anything ASUS again
My current Asus M2R32 motherboard has been nothing but trouble since day 1...This is with the last bios' (beta or otherwise)
1) On board Network card crashes under load (ie stops sending/receiving packets) and can only be fixed by restart
2) On board Network card sometimes disappears entirely (Not even in device manager) and can only be "revived" on a cold boot.
3) AHCI is broken on XP and severely broken on Vista. (The fix for Vista is err really rime consuming)
4) Board picks memory timings off SPD wrong which causes crash on restart unless settings manually put in after cold boot.
5) Tech support is not only slow as hell, but the staff are absolute idiots.
a) They tell me to install Nvidia Raid utility (on an ATI chipset) to fix the AHCI issue.
b) When I ask for a bios fix they send me instructions on how to get a new bios chip...
Thats one too many issues for me to put up with...I've had it.
ASUS...Rock Solid....Until it breaks miserably.....

1) You got a bad motherboard. It happens.
2) Almost all U.S. tech support for Asian companies sucks. Move on.

heres what you need to do, stop whining and RMA the board. you are whining over a board that is a bad motherboard to begin with. so, BUCK-UP, RMA it to ASUS and get a replacment. your not the first person to get a LEMON.

No Kidding, hmm now I wonder why I didn't think of that?
You are missing the point. My point was that they shouldn't have released such a buggy board to begin with and that at least they could have made A LITTLE effort into having proper support for their products.

I understand you may be frustrated, unlucky you got a dud but I have had a fair few mobos, 4 of them asus (p5b-d, commando and two blitz's). p5b-d did the famous fans come on but nothing else happens, 2 week replacement and one of the blitz's went screwy and was replaced in two weeks too. It happens. aw9d max never gave issues and I never kept the dfi icfx for very long...
I wouldn't write off a company because of one bad experience; I have 3 kits of corsair, 2 of them Dominators, both RMA's...
Hope you get it sorted :)

Actually MDK, no offense but I don't think you get the point.
The board's not buggy. You got a bad board. RMA it.
EDIT: By the way, in no way do I forgive Asus for having dodgy support. They do need to step it up a bit.

None taken, but I know this is an issue with the board. I have seen 3 of these boards with the same issues (my own plus one I bought for a friend at the same time and another one at work). Thats 3 for 3 that I have seen. Maybe it was a bad batch, but a quick google query shows the Nic and AHCI issues being reported as far back as 2005 on various Asus mobos.
Fyi, I will RMA the board :)

Asus tech support can be total idiots, one did not even know what a northbridge was! But they can be great as well. I use the " hang up and try again method.
Some of the drivers can be really odd too.. deleat and reinstall is my rule ..
I buy Asus for the quality, believe it or not!
Good luck

Any computer component can be a dud or fail at anytime. This comes down to quality control which most companies have minimum standards at best. It is just too expensive to test each board one at a time. Especially with the current flow of hardware development, it is not worth testing boards when you keep changing the standards.
You are not going to find many people on this board who haven't run into at least one bad piece of hardware they had to send back. It happens and if nothign else, you learn from the experience. Buy whatever products you want too but they all have issues at times.
BTW - This forum is 1000 times better than a manufacturer's help line. The only thing customer service is good for is getting a RMA number for a replacement or return.

Asus tech support can be total idiots, one did not even know what a northbridge was! That's because you aren't getting a technician. You're getting an operator with a bunch of technical manuals to scan through. All companies do this.

i agree 100%...ASUS IS A HUGE POS AND A CANCER TO THE COMPUTER HARDWARE WORLD
i had a striker extreme which is the :banana::banana::banana:tiest thing ever made , my evga 680i is 1 million times better than that thing could ever be, and cheaper to boot.
this makes me hate asus and i will never purcahse anything from them again. evga is was better

I am not as harsh as Richard but I have been using Asus boards in many builds and really haven't had any issues (major issues). However, I do plan on going the DFI route for my Yorkfield build and can't wait to try out that Lanparty.

I used to think Asus was decent, but I'm now of the school of thought that they're overpriced, poorly executed junk. And usually that's true. I'd take an abit any day.

My last two builds were Asus and they were good. No longer though. Just look through the reviews on New Egg. They suck now. My next build will be Abit or DFI.

I would hardly consider newegg reviews as a good source to judge product quality. It amazes me how many weekend-warriors there think they're a highly trained, experienced IT professional. :ROTF:

DFI's quality control is pretty rough too. A friend just went through... I think three or four RMA's of the DFI N680 board, another friend had a broken P965-s Dark board, and my first Blood-Iron was broken. :/
