So I was looking at a Maximum PC magazine this afternoon and i passed by an ad that had a 8800gt 1GB. Is this a typo or is this a sign of things to come ??
Sorry for the crappy image it was with my cell.

with all the hype and rumors lately, it was not expected that there would be a 1gb card by nvidia... or in this case evga branded nvidia card

I don't believe the PCB is set up for 1GB. Maybe it is just two 512MB cards in SLI???
i have that issue of MaxPC, theres a system right above it that reads:
2x NVIDIA Geforce 8800GT 1GB DDR3 in SLI Mode 80% Performance Gain over single video card solution. Powered by EVGA
and theres also one below the one the OP posted, reads:
NVIDIA Geforce 8800GT 512 DDR3 16X PCI-E. Powered by EVGA
so it could be true or not. :confused:
512MB + 512MB != 1024MB in SLI or Crossfire...

There is 1gb of Vram there but it is only using 512mb.
precisely 2x 512MB copies of the same information... 1GB is used but it is really 512x2.... :yepp:

I think we might see a 1GB card on the upcoming 65nm 8800GTS refresh, but I don't think we will see it on the GT.

I highly doubt there will be a 1GB 8800GT...

Technically, a 1GB model could had been released with the 512MB model. Qimonda sells a 1Gbit GDDR3 chip (HYB18H1G321AF-11, 900MHz) which is twice the density of those on 512MB boards. No PCB redesigns required, just slap in the bigger chips and you're good to go.

:yepp: thats why they have 8800GT 1GB , not a typo or a new 8800GT 1GB model !
regards
Typo,1GB on a 8800GT/256BIT is a waste of memory,we all know how good was 2900XT 1GB edition vs 512 one....:rolleyes:
Anyway I found my next (http://www.gainward.com/product/product_detail.php?products_id=131) super card it has 1GB GDDR now I will PWN kingpin on the ORB just wait and see:wth:

512MB + 512MB != 1024MB in SLI or Crossfire...
For SLI yes, but the superior crossfire technology does add more RAM, because of the way it works.
I don't that particular setup has a 1gb 8800gt, I believe it has simply sli cards, but it is confirmed that some vendors are selling 1gb 8800gt(s), you can find them on a few european sites

This is an add from Cyberpower PC. They also still advertise nforce 3d audio with some of their machines.

"Sparkle also claims that this 1GB beast is backward compatible with “the original PCI Express standard”. We haven’t seen anyone actually sticking a G92 card in a PCIe 1.0 or 1.1 slot, but it makes for an appealing selling point for upgraders."
The Inq=retareded or what ?
No fake about the card coming out, but the part about PCIe is just to much...

From the initial reviews it doesn't seem that the extra memory helps that much over the 512mb. If the prices ever get down to reasonable rates I know I would definitely get the 512 over the increased cost of the 1gb.
