When installing Vista, does it require a Floppy Drive?
(like in the old days of XP: press F6 and then load drivers from FD)

I want to know, because I'm building a new PC and I'm wondering to use the floppy drive or not :)

You can use Floppy, CD, and a USB stick as well. I had to load drivers for my board, but some boards you do not need to.

I didn't for my Abit IP35-pro board, but yeah, it does depend on the motherboard, especially if it has brand-new hardware versions on it.

If anything, you can just temporarily hook up a floppy drive for the initial install.

I'll probably need to do similar for XP-pro 64 as it blue-screens on the new pc, and I'm pretty sure it's because I have all the drives on SATA in raid. I'll just boot from USB-drive instead of bothering with searching for my floppy drives.

as said it depends on your mother board..
if your bios can boot up and detect usb flash devices as HDD's You can use a flash drive.
I have a cd with my mother board so i use that..
But thats for xp...

My vista ultimate installed sttraight out of the box.
But xp was already installed so the drivers were already there.

I have the Asus Striker Extreme.

I was just wondering, because I ordered a MM case and the optional 3.5" -> 5.25" converter bay.

I have a 3.5" floppy drive and a 3.5" fan controller.
Don't know which one to put in the bay :D

Use "vlite" and merge them onto a new vista dvd , you can also add all your other drivers and serial number too.

Put in the fan controller, as you can just temporarily hook up the floppy drive to install the drivers, then toss it in a box never to be seen again (or at least until next reinstall).

Thnx for the replies.

I think I'm still going to install the FD.

The fan controller will stay in my old case, as I already ordered a Zalman ZM-MFC1 PLUS to control 6 fans.
And I already got an AeroCool PowerWatch, wich can control 4 fans.

I got 11 fans in my case. So 1 fan will be controlled by the MOBO.

So I'm going to use the FD.

Unless I find something else fancy to put in the 5.25" bay :D
