Ok, first once you have WinVNC Installed. You should be able to start it and have it running in the taskbar like in the pic.

See in the far left side? the White square? thats VNC

Now, with that running, you should be able to right click that and if will give you a few options. Go to properties, and it will give you this window.

Now, from the main system, the one you want to watch all the other machines from, you will get this..

Now see the first system is labeled 0? every other machine will need to be altered.

This is where you need to alter it at. Within the WinVNC program. Same as in the above, the properties of said machine. You will need to uncheck the Auto and specify the #.
So, like in my setup.
Tyan ~ Viewer system, ONLY VNC Viewer.
PPro ~ is PPro:0
EPoX ~ EPoX:1
Slot1 300 ~ Slot1 300:2
etc
etc
that is what you need to put into the viewer from the main machine to see the appropriate machine.

remote admin on a XP is overkill :p
the built in remote desktop (rdp) is much faster!

Mind explaining what you mean a little better there? I dont follow your point.

I hope you use radmin/vnc to connect on a Linux/Win95/98/Me/2000 system :)

Ok maybe I should restate this a little better.

What? I am very new to this VNC stuff so some minor explinations would be outstanding.

Im presuming you mean remote admin, which if you do Im lost with what your meaning.

From what Ive played with in the VNC so far there is no settings for admin or not.

I'm saying , that if you want to remote control a Windows XP box you can use the built in Terminal Services of XP Pro :)

True, but I would rather use another program. Mostly due to I dont know all the little intracasies inside windows. I disable all the remote admin crap that it comes with normally. With this VNC, I can check into my system from anywhere that has Internet access.

but could XP's rmote admin peek into a nonXP box?

?
remote desktop on Windows XP can be connected from externally
not visa-versa :)

the RDP protocol is secure (equally or more then radmin/vnc) and it works flawlessy :)

I never got VNC to work properly behind a router and when it accidently (?) worked ... it worked badly.
From what i read i thought the remote desktop feature of XP only works between 2 XP desktops. I would be reluctant to use it, just because it is a microsoft product ... there must be like a zillion holes in it and i bet some Redmont guy will use it 2 steal all my confidential pr0n files :^)
I use PCanywere, it always works, it is helluva fast (after some minor tweaking), it's easy, it's secure and the ftp feature really speeds ups your downloads. Only to be used it windows environment, but you can connect to whatever windows OS.

Ive heard of PCAnywhere alot. And from what Ive heard, its not a very secure environment. As well that it costs cash.

VNC, however is first off free. :D Always good. And second, is slightly difficult, but not impossible to setup. And from what Ive been able to do so far, has been very nice so far.

As i was worried about security and leaving 2 ports open day and night i searched for security leaks on PCanywere ... couldn't find one that wasn't patched already (and there are just 2 or 3 patches). You have possibilities to set it up with quite extensive security measurements. It costs money but i didn't have a choice since it was impossible to get the VNC program working behind a router (even when PC is put in the DMZ zone).

Um... sorry to inform you, but I am behind a router. And I have had it working for about 2 or so weeks. Ive had Gooch, JBell and Stompah all get in to check the settings and what have you. So, heh, Im afraid the cash was not well spent. LoL..

Sorry for the bad news, but it is possible. And that is without the PC in the DMZ Zone.

Must be my router (linksys). I read the VNC manual and FAQ ... did some more search ... tried different possibilities ... no luck.
Setting up PCanywere went mucho smooth.
ah ... win some, lose some ...

heh.... sorry again man. Mine is the LinkSys BEFRS41 if I recall correctly.
It was hard to set up, but I had some help with someone that walked me through it.
Basiclly, what you would need to do is Get your internal IP of the machine you want to connect to via the internet. Go into the settings of the router and go into your forwarding tab, should be under the advanced if yours is the same as mine.
There you should see an Ext. Port option, you need to enable the port of 5800 - 5900 (thats what Ive found to work best on mine.) then check the TCP box and the Enable box at the end.
Next you need to specify which computer you want to get to, put in the internal IP of the machine on the right side.
Here it should be working now. (I believe, sorry, its been awhile.)
Then use your external IP address and then it should look like so 55.55.55.55:5800 when you attempt to go into the machine via internet within a browser window. That specifies Which system your looking for and which IP.
Then it should let you in no probs. I think theres a few other options, but cant recall its been awhile. I think this is all that is really needed though.
If you give it a try let me know if it works or not, If not I can get into it and check for other things that need to be done.

I think I might end up making a DIY for this. :D

Thanks for your help, but i already tried the forwarding stuff ... of course ...
If i can be of any help making the DIY ... lemmeknow ... maybe you'll win yet another price with it :^)
