View Full Version : Can CPU's have FSB walls?

Reason i'm asking is because no matter what multi i set my E6750 to, it won't go above a certain FSB, usually about 450mhz, and can't get my ram up to its stock rated 1066.
the higher the FSB goes the lower my RAM will go.
Striker extreme and Crucial Ballistix 8500
had same problem on my eVGA 680i LT, and the ram works ok in my brothers computer, so i can only conclude it's the CPU, any similar experiences?

I ever hand pick 100 pcs+ E6850 ES and retail. They are only 5% for FSB 550+.
30% is not achieved to FSB 500+. Did you think this is bad mobo because NO HIGH FSB for your CPU?
I want to say you need to make sure your cpu could achieve high fsb on other mobo, not only on DFI LP P35-T2R.
Oskar and I test many retail DFI LP P35s, which are over 5 pcs. Every mobo can do FSB 600 on air 32M because I have godly hand pick FSB 600 CPU.
We just make sure retail can do FSB 600, not only sample, but we are wrong. We still hear too many people complain about fsb wall.
Please make sure your cpus can work high fsb on other brand's mobo and DFI cannot work it. I will tell Oskar to slove your problem.
Good Luck

good info, doesn't explain the bad memory though, should run 1066 @ 5-5-5-15, but struggles to even get to 900 sometimes with this CPU, memory related to the CPU?
memory can do 1200 @ 5-5-5-15 in my bro's comp.

 Can confirm this - my E6850 was able to boot up to 492 FSB on my previous ASUS P35 board and now on ASUS P5E (X38) it maxes out at the same.
But I saw screens of E6850 on P5E running 560 FSB so it must be CPU limitted.

i guess i got lucky i max out at 580
on p35 was 577 on x38 got to 580

My CPU deffinately has a FSB wall at around 445FSB...as i approach 450FSB it becomes very unstable and won't POST. I have had three mobo's and i hit the same FSB wall with each one.

reckon i'd be mad to swap my E6750 for my bro's E6300? might get higher FSB on his lol, might try it later :D

mine will do 604 with 1.65 but no higher ever with 1.75.

Especially the low end CPUs have hard FSB walls. My E2140 can do 456 MHz on air with just 1.4V. Watercooling and 1.6V didnt improve max FSB for a single MHz. On single stage I was able to get 494 MHz FSB, 1.5V. With LN2 504MHz with only 1.6V. More voltage does not help in most cases, what helps is cold and in some cases PLL voltage.

well i'm on a pretty decent water loop and won't budge at all, all 1/2" tubing, swiftech apogee, dual extreme rad and decent pump + decent temps and still nothing lol, kinda disheartening spending money on decent kit when standard stock cooler yields the same results lol
