View Full Version : **** Time to rework on Stickies ****

Since I've been out for quite some time, I noticed the stickies need some updating. I've cleaned up some dead links, I am working to put things in there that people can show me links to.
Gallery can use revamp for sure, so does some cascade and auto-c at this point I bet.
There are few criterias I am looking for when putting them in link at this point (must be proven to work with reasonable load, I think lot of us are capable of showing off rediculous temperature on whim if wished), etc.
Please submit the links here to be reviewed (I already added your cascades before) and submitted.
Also some nice thread that is worth stickying it in your opinoins, please show us the link.
We will consider it and put it in as we see fit.
Thanks for your time guys ;) XS phase section contains SOOO MUCH information that are valuable but at same time, extremely hard to dig through due to immensity of volume. This hopefully helps people to understand better have easier reference point to look at, etc.

PS) This also means all instructional/informational links.

How about a fundamentals section. I though this was neat.

http://www.refrigerationbasics.com/1024x768/rb1.htm

Maybe a rundown on how to use coolpack?

Miller, good one :) I will do that if I haven't done so :) In fact, that is one of first material I purchased when I started myself (the professional version).
Rogard, let me double check if that bit torrent file is something we can post up without any legal issues, etc. Let more info flowing in guys :)

Thanks!

I am not sure if the evap gallery is in the stickies, I haven't seen it in there. Maybe put that in the gallery sticky?

-EDIT-

I just saw it in the building guide.

Maybe put some links to EPA and the UK counterpart on how to get certified to handle refrigerants?

hey Jin, the link to the new gallery is broken, here's what it should be
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=149340

that, and I think the problem ridden sales stickie should either tell people to take care of it in the customer relations forum or just be moved all together to the relations forum

Oooh... that sticky? That is beyond me ;) Admins (beyond moderator level) and all mods agreed it to be there and I do think it is reasonable to stay there until we get rid of all current problem in hand (unfortuntately, I know there are some more that need to be taken care of).
I personally don't like to see it but as forum mod, I stand behind it 100% as this does protect unsuspecting people from potential harm.
As for the link, I will take a look at it. In all honesty though SS section has much harder requirement that I put up on to be in there especially due to standard of SS unit keep going up unlike cascade, etc. Lot of build there are a year old or past and honestly, I haven't seen too many SS that really showed new idea, new look, new concepts, new evaporator they designed, etc. It's gotta be somewhat notable one way or another to be quite frank.
Cascade isn't subjected to that as much at this point.
I will definitely take a look at what is in there and start contacting builders of such builds to see which one of their build they prefer being put up there :)
Yeah, I could be damned picky at times.

I found this to a while ago.

Not as animated as the Refrigeration Basics, but informational none the less.

I've shown this one to a few friends, great introductory to this type of thing.

Also, tophertony posted a huge word doc a while back... it's essentially just a class workbook but it's full of useful information.

That refrigeration torrent would be nice too, but I cant get it to work any more... tracker down!

j.k bro, but I think the gallery would add a nice touch, as although a lot of them are not unique, we need a good gallery, plus it'll fascinate a lot of people into spending more time in the phase section

or perhaps you could do a cascade or even autocascade gallery if you want unique things, a lot of the builders choose their own styles for those (especially when it comes to building their own heat exchangers and what not)

I need help. I do understand the need for phase gallery that anyone can post up for showing off/ having fun/ etc. However, it has failed multiple times with the images getting dislocated, etc. (I believe there are total 4-5 floating around in XS at the moment)
We need some sure way to manage the pictures and content to make it useful without it being an eye sore -_-;
What I am thinking about is making a closed thread and I can start moving some that has valid pictures still linked to it. And once that is done (eeek... I think I volunteered for wrong thing), can open it up for people to post up. However, the link better be something that can last years (meaning, it really should be uploaded to XS database).
What are your thoughts?

The gallery is great, but when someone new comes I want to be able to read the stickies, not look at pictures :)

Can you please add this to the stickies, I find it really helpful if someone has temp probe problems:

sounds good, because imageshack and other free hosting services tend to only work for a couple of months, and then the image "expires" or whatever term they like to use

I agree either uploading it through the xs server or some kind of server that won't delete the image/images last at least a few years will be necessary to have a good gallery. Especially because the number of builders are far fewer than air cooling or watercooling to keep up a good gallery

Perhaps rising the 200KB limit would be a good idea?

jinu117
11-16-2007, 08:56 PM
It's a little iffy right now at 200KB (as when I compact pictures it seems to go right above it at 1024x768... typically)
Considering size of forum, it probably is heavy burden when it comes time to do backup/maintenance. I will ask... but I doubt it can be moved to much higher number to be honest.

I use Photoshop and the "save for web" function, it will let me keep my 1280X1024 screenshots well under 100k and still have excellent pics. Keep in mind not everyone lives in an area where broadband is available. ;)

I vote for a NON locked Phase Gallery, much like the air cooling and water cooling forums. I mentioned this months ago, a lot of people liked it but never changed. I never hear any b*tching about those forums so why can't we have one that everyone can contribute to without taking any work from the moderators? You could even condense some of the stickies and combine them to reduce the clutter; IE put all of the building/contruction/safety/mounting/insulation all in the same sticky, it's all relatively the same.

Interesting suggestion Blue Aqua... :) Sticky was previously covering most of first page :) It has been compacted since than. As for gallery, I just don't want something that looks... empty after a year later.
Here are some thoughts
Combine some of sticky would be nice definitely now that I think of it. I will have to get some more feedback on that.
As for unlocked phase gallery, I am in process of working with that :) What I am thinking is, if picture link is broken, I would just remove that particular thread since it is of no value (duh... gallery) routinley... How does that sound to you guys?

We could also do a combined build thread. Alot like the Pots gallery in the Ln2/dice section. That would be a nice addition and seperate it from the gallery sticky, so that way people just starting can look at many good quality builds from start to finish. I found that those threads helped me out alot when I got started.

I dunno, that would make the gallery huge. I like the idea of having two galleries, one of just posting a picture or two of a final product, and then a hall of fame that's locked (so you have to be voted in essentially) that has the actual worklogs. People could then optionally post the links to their worklogs in the gallery, that keeps the gallery clean and compact, and also we have a clean compilation of the worklogs of the really nice builds
