Nice, checked them out earlier today with no luck, glad you found one! I'll have to go check it out, curious what its costing! Of course its not like I'm going to get one, just wanted to see it for sale, lol!

Just ordered one from Tigerdirect. Will be here on Wednesday.

those are OEM's (tray cpu's) with just one year warranty...nothing wrong with that but i rather have a retail box with 3 yr warranty.

Hell the warranty will be shot as soon as I try and get it to 4.5GHz. But I suppose it is good to know that, as I did not see that when I bought it.

The Intel plant where they make the Penryn is in Chandler, AZ., which is a suburb of Phoenix, about 30 minutes from my home. I wonder if they give out free samples if you take a tour? :)

I was so hoping the Q9450 would be released today as well.

I just can't see myself losing $1150 on a cpu that'll cost $40 in 2 years.

Can't wait for the QX9450 comes on sale!

doubt the cpu will be that cheap in 2 years...the extreme quads are not subject to large price drops.

the 9450 and the other models will be out in some time jan. of 08

cool, thanks for the link mjb1206.

Ill wait a little longer and see if anybody sells them a little cheaper.

Holy :banana::banana::banana::banana:! That's expensive... but that's expected, I guess...

So I guess Q1 08 for the rest of the penryn stuff. Hmmm

Any word on when there will be price cuts on the current Intel offerings? Q6600, e6550, e6750 etc..

retail is listed but says it is sold out.

My pockets no longer go that deep. I guess I'll just get in line over there with the other January-release-date-people and druel over the up-comming benchmarks.

sigh. you would think they would release the mainstream price line (9450's) before xmas.

i think intel was hoping for a huge surge on buying their topline penryn...they don't want to bring out the lower models to early...AMD did something similar about 2-3 years ago.

lolz...every extreme cpu i have bought on release has dropped 1/2 price, and less...so no more top of the line purchases for me.....i will be waiting for Q1 release of the lower priced, more overclockable cpu's to hit...

The lowest prices shown on froogle is around $1050 shipped, but no stock yet. I'd say in about a week more stock should show up, but I don't expect much better pricing anytime soon.

which extreme processors did you buy that dropped 50% or more?

Maybe the one that is 3 years old and being sold as used. :D ;) :D If only that were true. The QX6850 is still being listed for $1000. Now they should be selling for no more than $500 imo, but should and is are two very different things. All this nonsense about 45 process being more economical to build apparently has little to do with the top end models. These prices need to come way down, or maybe it really is that hard to squeeze this sort of performance from today's silicon. It's just nuts, and don't get me started on the price of ddr3. . . .

RIGHT!;)

i read that intel is/has spent 3 billion to convert the factories over to 45nm assembly line so i guess they have to recoup their costs somehow:shrug:

Extreme chips always have 1K price tag;)

on the subject of releasing high end first. It's much easier to fill orders on the top end stuff because the demand just isn't as huge. Also if anything this bodes rather well I think, it means that of the chips we are making, many of them are binning out into the EE versions of chips. Keep in mind too that the basic performance of the lower end models is ~= the performance of 65nm stuff. there really is no incentive to go selling something that's almost exactly the same as what we're making lots of money on now.

F32 just started up and aren't producing anything more then test chips and factory validation stuff. Right now all the penryn that are hitting the market are right outa D1D.

any sense with tray cpu's versus retail boxed cpu's being any different in overclock abilities?

probably not, i don't think the binning strategy changes at all. If a cpu has the qualities of a given SKU it gets stuck in that bin.
