CoD4 optimisation

Hiya people,

I bought CoD4 yesterday and was confident it could run smoothly on my lappie. When I start up a server myself in MP I get 90fps (640x800, everything low), looking good. 'Till I joined a server, 20fps! Now I've been through some forms to find some optimisation cmd's but didn't get me any further. Strangely enough I ran CoD2 MP in a server on 1600x1200 at 125fps but CoD4 on 640x800 gives me 20...
Specs:

Intel Pentium-M 720 2.13GHz
1Gig ram
Go 7800GTX 256mb

Looks like fine specs to me for say 70-80 fps, not 20!

Also, my ping is on the high side, around 70 average. In CoD2 around 30. Also tried the known cmd's such as cl_maxpackets, rate & sv_fps but didn't cure it.

Can any1 give me a hand here?

A ping of 70 is not high at all - I would love to have that.

Unsure of the framerate problem...what driver? Tried 169.xx?

Go 7800GTX doesn't work with Forceware, I've gotta download it off the manufacturer website (Dell), but I'll check for updates. thnx for the suggestion.
70 ping is still high in my book, doesn't feel very smooth when gaming, but compared to other players in the server my ping is a tad lower than average

FTR the way to do it for many ATI gpus is Driver Heaven's Mobility Modder (http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/)

I'm telling you, only the Dell-drivers will work and I updated those to the latest version, 0,1% performance gain woohoo

It is pretty :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty, but you can not mod the drivers for notebook-gfx, at least not Dell ones.

I had similar problems with CoD 4 demo, until I updated to 169.04, all problems were gone... I guess it sucks to have no drivers on a portable :(

im running COD4 full version, on my 3- 19" monitors, (3840x1024), and its FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!

i love this game, its just what i needed before the snow flies! ill play it when it gets cold and all the renovations are done..... i just finished the hardwood in the pc room yesterday, and the tiles/grout in the hallway, moved my massive new oak desk in the pc room, i have phone/net/ satellite cables to run, then ill move everything over to the "NEW" room....... gettin ready for -40 gaming!;-)
