My Networking and Sharing control panel in vista is no longer working. The little connected icon down in the corner shows a Red X for not connected, but I still have internet. any ideas?

do you have another Network card installed? could be a notification for that being unplugged. Also are you on the net through a USB DSL Modem of some sort or just using the ethernet port for that?

Its not that, my other ethernet card is disabled. But the thing is, I can't actually get into the network configuration at all. One time it semi worked, and said something about unable to connect to some kind of server, this is the control panel btw, not the internet. but either way, none of the networking connection options loaded up. now if i try to go into the config panel, explorer just locks up.

sounds like an issue with your windows services. check if network connections and remote access connection manager are started. If not my easy mode answer would be to reinstall windows.
hope this helps
