Hi guys

I have my windows vista 64 tweaked down to 23 processes running and everything has been fine for weeks. This morning I added 2 more gb of ram so now I have 4gb everything works fine from games to internet but since I installed them I cant access the control panel anymore when I click on it nothing happens.Maybe its one of the services I disabled what services does control panel need to work?

System
Intel Core Duo E4300@3ghz
Gigabyte 8800GTS 640MB
Asus P5N E Sli
Corsair XMS2 6400C4 V1.2 2GB

Im using Sp1 beta

Go to Start-Run; type in "services.msc"; list services set to "Disabled" if you still have trouble.

Here are the services I have on Automatic(Started) and the ones in manual the rest are disabled.

goto services, restart "software licensing" service, retry the control panel ;-)

I had this same problem recently while OCing my memory, I would go to control panel but nothing there. Since the settings i was using on my memory was unstable anyways i backed down and what do you know, my control panel items came back. This is the second time it happened to me, why would OCing cause control panel items to go away? =)

Well, it may not directly fix your problem, but what settings are you trying to see/change? All can be reached by methods other than the control panel.

Also, are you using DX10 for gaming I assume? if not, then why use Vista? all of the services related to the PMP are disabled, so the only feature advantage is DX10.

Result of spyware...

First make sure it's all gone (use hijackthis, trendmicro, adaware, etc...)

Then you need to fix registry keys the spyware changed:

Start-Run: regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\
Explorer\NoControlPanel
Value must be zero

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\
Explorer\NoControlPanel
Value must be zero
