I know that the HighPoint Rocket Raid cards are pretty much the best for the money, but i have a friend who need to get a PCI Raid 0 card for under $30. He plans on using it with his 2X 40gig Western Digital 7200 rpm hard drives .. these will be the only drives in his system so it will have Windows 2000 on it and everything else he ever does. I was looking at something like this http://www.neutronexpress.com/index.cfm?t=pif&id=195917 but i dunno.. what do you all think? And what is the difference between cards that support "software" raid and ones that use hardware raid? And if i get one that uses "software" raid.. can i still install an OS on it and make it bootable and all using raid 0? Thanks guys!

My Adaptec 1200A is a software RAID card. It is also a bootable card. Software cards use the driver to do the work and use the processor a bit whereas a hardware RAID controller often has its own processor built in and allows you tro add cache memory via a DIMM slot to the card.
Just check the specs to see if its bootable as Im not sure about that particular card.
