View Full Version : Question about fan orientation

My radiator is a MCR-220 from swiftech, it's mounted on the back of my case with the radbox with the fans on the back pushing through it.

In this position dust gathers between the fans and the rad on the backside and is impossible to clean without taking it all apart or compressed air.

My solution to this was the next time I re-do my loop I was going to switch the fans around so they suck through the rad towards my case and the dust gathers on the front side of the radiator so I can just wipe it off much easier.

The possible negative effect of this is my ambient temps will rise because the air is now getting pushed into my case. However it would be much easier to clean and I could deal with a degree or two increase for better cleaning.

So, what are the opinions of my fellow watercoolers ? Should I make it easier to clean at the risk of higher temps, or just blow it out with compressed air every 3 months or so?

always better to routinely clean out rad, even if it means dismantling rad-fan for a while...

if i may ask, what are your other case fan orientations?...

Man, I haven't been in my case in a while lol, it's a P180B.

If I remember right, stock there's 1 on the roof blowing out, 1 on the rear blowing out, and one in the lower chamber in front of the psu.

I had to move the one in the lower psu chamber because it was blocking my cables of my PCP&Cooling 610 silencer. I believe I moved that one up where the upper HDD cage would have been, so it's on the upper front blowing in.

I'll know more towards the weekend when I tear into the case again for the first time in months :)

I like dismantling my watercooling loop about every year for a clean out. It's a pain and I'm not OCD so I don't clean it every 2 weeks or something.

Blow my boxes out regularly.
Use an oil-less compressor.

Quite cheap and doesn't blow oil or water droplets into my electronics like a big one does unless filter-trapped.
