So I have been experience random computer restarts somewhat frequently. I ran a CPU orthos test which passed. I then did an Orthos test and MemTest in which my memory failed the tests. I have 2gigs of SuperTalent ram. Now the weird thing is it is making it hard for me to decide which stick is bad, if it is bad, or is my my motherboard ram slots or what.

When I first ran the test, the orthos failed in about 1min 12 sec in slots 1 and 3. I ran MemTest and I believe it said one error occurred after a long time. I ran both sticks in slots 2 and 4 in which orthos failed in about 13 minutes. I then ran others on slot one with a stick and it failed orthos after 5 hours and some odd minutes. I put the same stick in slot 3 and it was still passing after 8 hours and some odd minutes. I'm getting real confused.

What should I do to decide which stick is bad or if it is my mother board. Why would the stick fail in slot one after 5 hours but pass in slot 3 after 8 hours.

I could run memtest on each stick on each slot and see what happens, but that will take a long time, but if I have no choice then I guess I have to. Any recommendations?

How long do you run MemTest for before deciding "OK the ram has passed"?

Well, you answered your question yourself..... Run memtest86 on each memory stick individually. Heck, I would run memtest86 on each stick overnight if you have the time. If not, run each one for a few hours at least. I have heard folks say that if you have memory errors they will show up within five passes. Lucky for me, my Ballistics were error free after running each one individually over night twice...........

Good Luck!
