This is for all you memory junkies.
Most questions here regarding 4GB of memory are:
"OMG....I installed 4GB and Windowz only seez 2-3GB!!!11111!!1"
:p:
My question is a bit different, coming from a different perspective. I am running a dual boot of WinXP Pro and Windows Vista x64 Ultimate, with 4GB of RAM. My question relates to WinXP Pro.
We already admit that you will never see 4GB of physical memory in WinXP Pro. That's fine with me; System Properties sees 3.25GB. The question I have is regarding the boot switches regarding memory size.
1. Apparently, according to my research so far, the PAE switch and the /3GB switch do the same thing. If this is not true, please correct me.
2. I'd like to know what would be the best configuration for my system, to use which switch? The /PAE or the /3GB? I am having some problems with programs crashing on exit/system shutdown, and I'm 100% sure it's because they don't like all the memory. Just for your information, you should know that my system is 11210321035406510651% stable at the OC settings specified in my rig (massive burn-in test having been done), so it's not platform instability, it's a memory config issue. I never had this issue when I was running 2GB of RAM.
3. If none of these work, I am going to have to be resorted to using the /burnmemory parameter. What negative impact will doing this have on my system, if any?
Thanks for all your help.
Here is my system config:
Corsair 620HX PSU * Asus P5K Deluxe * Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 3.28GHz w/Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, cooled w/Sony Scythe S-Flex SFF21F * 4GB Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400 * WD5000KS, HD160JJ, SP1614C SATA; Toshiba SD-M1712 DVD; Optiarc AWG170S-B2 DVD-RAM * EVGA 8800GTS * X-Fi Platinum; WinTV Go * Logitech MX518 * CM Stacker 830 * Dual LCD (Viewsonic VP201b & VX922)
