Hey everyone,

I have been building systems for a while, but i never had the funds to buy exactly what i wanted. I am in the process of building the first real system of my choice, and I think I would enjoy overclocking my system. I have a asus p5w dh deluxe motherboard and a g0 q6600. The main purpose of this thread is to help me pick out memory. I have a 2gb vista machine, and I feel that I could use 4 gb, possibly 8 one day. I'm trying to decide whether to do it right from the beginning and get 2x2gb chips, or whether to get 2gb and upgrade later, or maybe even get 4gb (1x4) now and sell them on ebay later when a good deal comes up. I'm thinking if im running my fsb at 1066 mhz I will be satisfied with the speed; is that a realistic goal?

Here are some of the chips I was thinking of: (oh yea, assuming i get 4gb now, my budget is 200 bucks)

Crucial Ballistix 2GB ddr2 800 (2 x 1GB) $60

mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 $61

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 $170

patriot extreme 4gb (2x2) ddr2 800 $180

G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 1000 $195

mushkin 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 $180

GeIL Value Series 4GB(2 x 2GB) $160

or any other recommendations?

I read that I should get micron chips when i can; how much does this really help?

other questions:
i bought my motherboard off ebay, and it is missing the cooling off the northbridge as well sa the 975x chipset. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement one from, or other comprably priced cooling solutions?

also, I ordered 2 coolers free from clubit;
the gemini 2 and the cooler master hyper tx2 cpu cooler; which one would be better for cooling my setup?

I don't know what chips they use. This one uses micron chips. It does not seem as good as the G.Skill based on the reviews.

I bet these use the same ICs as the G.skill PC8000 5-5-5-x 4 GB kit.

I've been guessing these are the new 70nm Elipida ICs, but I don't know for sure.

The G.Skills use Powerchips according to r00n.

I'd guess these to be Micron actually, since thus far, there's been nothing that's out @ CAS 4 2 GB dimms other than Mushkin, & they use Micron D9HBD & D9GSV on their higher end 2x2 kits afaik.

I could be wrong though.

It looks like the G.skill's will do 4-4-4-X at DDR2 800 also. That is why I was thinking these new Mushkin's were the same.

These new Mushkin's running 4-4-4-x at 800 are certainly cheap enough though compared to some of their earlier higher performance offerings.
