Found a nice flaw with vista this morning when making a backup of my over large steam folder which is 14gb to another PC, I get the error out of memory this is apparently due to a bug in windows explorer in vista and the way it handles files.
Hope this is of some help to people that have experience the issue and not found the answer why.
you have to apply for the fix to microsoft

If it is then it is but have never experienced this previously for instance when copying 90gb from 2003 server to and xp pc i never used to get this issue or vice versa
quote from link
This problem occurs because of a memory leak in the Windows OLE component. This memory leak is triggered by the way that Windows Explorer deals with the extended attributes of the files
