View Full Version : Side Panel Fans on Case Loud...

So I recently bought 2 140mm yate loons for my CM 690 and I tested the fans with an old power supply before I installed them and they were dead quiet. Once I got them screwed onto the side panel they made a much more noticeable hum. I'm attributing this to the fact they there are directly touching the metal panel and I am thinking about buying some rubber washers to put some distance between the fan and the panel. Does anybody have any experience with this? Will this make a noticeable difference?
Thanks

yea I have the same problem with my fans, currently using a YL D12SL-12, but anything faster than 5V will result in some awful motor noise. I'm using silicon washers now, won't make a difference, the grills themselves need to be stamped out about 5mm or so, add another 5mm with washers and it should be perfect.
But still a YL 5V is enough for me, I have so many fans in this beast, some need to be inaudible. :D

So, they were dead quite, were they? Or do you mean they were quite dead?
Or, is it possible you meant to say dead QUIET?

Yes that was an oversight on my part, I will make sure to change that. I guess I should thank you for being so helpful, smart A$$, ;)

Hey, y'know what? Now that I've typed "quite", I like it! I have now resigned from that anal spellers society. Please feel free to say quite whenever you like:up: My Coolermaster 534 case with 2x120mm fans is very quite:p:
Unlike the Antec 900 I bought for my build in progress:rolleyes: That CM 690 looks like a good case, I would have considered it if they were available a few months ago when I bought the Antec.
I don't know if this is any help for the fan hum on your side panel, but I had a Lian-Li case that used soft plastic fasteners to attach the fans instead of the normal metal screws. It did help to isolate the vibration from the fans somewhat.
I have seen them online at shops that sell Lian-Li case accessories:cool:

Cool, I already went out and bought these rubber washers I found at a local hardware store, I got my Yate Loon's coming tomorrow, but I will definitely keep those in mind though in the future.

The washers may be sufficient. Anything to isolate the fans helps:cool:
