i took and heated up a intel stock cooler with the copper center and hammered it out. i have a copper pipe that is just a little bittle bigger than the copper center. im gonna freeze the copper center and heat up the pipe and slide the two together. then i will solder it and hopefully it will be good with low temps. will make hold down tomorrow and have to get insulation yet. heres a few pics nutin to special just a budget pot done for really nutin lol. hope you enjoy:)

edit: will lap before i put it in and solder it together.

Are you going to use on the CPU? i think it would make an excellent NB pot but not ebough mass for CPU, imo. I think temp swings will be too much

im gonna try cpu to see how it works out. hopefully it will be ok if not then ill try sumthin different. maybe a copper block instead of the copper center piece. i will try dice and then ln2 to test it. i dont have a thermometer so i will only have bios and windows temps:(. i will test we will see if it has temps swings. were talking about like 10c from idle to load right?:) should be somewhere around there. hopefully this week sometime i will get to test it out.

Swings will be much more than 10C. Ill be suprised if you can even keep negative temps at idle on an oced processor with dice. Team Nexgen did this and their results sucked.

do you have any links to theres. i still will try. should i just shoot for ln2 then since dice wont be that great? i just mainly wanna do it to get some experience for sub cooling and insulation wise. i will make a nice pot eventually but have not enough funds as of right now so i will test this just for fun.:) it will be fun for me and maybe get a little higher fsb and mhz on a few cpu's. o well if it dont work good it will be fun:up:

edit: i might try putting some bb's in the bottom to help with some cooling. worth a try i guess.

i heated it up with a torch very hot and it slides right out with a couple of whacks with a hammer and sumthin to put in the center. very easy will have pics up of it soldered and hopefully mounting plate tomorrow around 3-4 pm eastern.

its almost done just gotta clean it up a bit more around the end were i soldered. water tested no leaks. man the solder did not wanna flow. it wanted one or the other but finally after it sucked it up inside and used tons of solder it started to bond good and worked out great. will make hold down tomorrow and i have my own insulation already so you guys might see finished product tomorrow. lata:up:

ok guys its done:up: . i made my own insulation and hold down and backplate. i know only 2 screws instead of 4 but surprisingly it works very good and i get 100% flat mounts every time i thought that the springs will make it sit flat with good pressure and it worked. hopefully i will get to do some benching this weekend with a couple of pounds of dry ice.:D well i let the pics do the talking. im very pleased with how this turned out. o ya the hold down plate is pressed on  .

Woa, green:p:
What isolation stuff is it?

lol ya green! it was a knee board thing for putting on the floor so your knees wont hurt from hard floor.cut it and super glued it smoke was rolling from the chemical reaction with the super glue and insulation. but soon as it was done smokin it was glue and hard to rip. had it all over my fingers from gluing it together.

total spent:
intel box cooler center - free
copper pipe - free
insulation and glue - free
plastic for hold down and back plate - free
nuts, washers, springs and threaded stock - $2.00 from ace hardware

this was all stuff layin around my mom and dads house so i thought i would make a cheap pot. very cheap i must say:up:

edit: its about 13 inches or so...

edit 2: heres a pic of the inside were the solder came up when it was really hot.

Looks like too much thermal paste?

One little piece of advice, if I may.... Do not use silver based thermal paste with sub-zero temps, it doesn't perform that well and it may freeze, Try using some white paste, like AC Ceramique, or plain old thermal grease ;)
