Heya

My hubris got the best of me, and im not quite sure what to do right now

I bought a new computer the other day, it has a Corsair 620W PSU (comes with a 24 pin, 8 pin and 4 pin plugs attached, the 24 pin one can be split into a 20 and 4 pin ones)

The mobo is a Gigabyte P35-DS4
It has a 24 pin atx slot, so i put the 24 pin plug there
It also has a 8 pin one that has some sort of plastic gizmo covering 4 of the pins, and no actual 4 pin one

Am i supposed to remove the plastic gizmo and insert the 8 pin plug there or just insert the 4 pin plug in the 4 pins that arent covered up ?

The mobo manual gives conflicting info, and the PSU manual info also conflicts with both the infos given in the mobo manual, so im not quite sure what to do now.

EDIT: This is what the manual says about it :

When using a power supply providing a 2x4 (ie the 8 pin plug) and a 2x12 power connector, remove the protective covers from the 12V power connector and the main power connector on the motherboard. Do not insert the power supply cables into pins under the protective covers when using a power supply providing a 2x2 12V and a 2x10 power connector.

My psu supplies both these sets of connectors....

I have always removed the plastic and put the 8-pin connector in. If you have the cable available why not give it all the power and even a little extra?

no the 20 and the 4 belong to the atx plug. (the main 24 pin plug) the 8 pin carries additional voltage for cpu. Do not plug the 4 pin into the cpu header (the one with the cover) use the 8 pin.
when your manual is talking about not removing the cover it is refering to older psu's which only had a 4 pin cpu supply. you should leave the cover on on those to help avoid shorting it accidentally.

To summarise the 20+4 pin are meant to go together in the 24 pin atx plug. the 8 pin is meant for cpu header.
