Why does the ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT run cooler then the ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2? I have seen some reviews and it seems to run at lease 5C cooler, why?

9700 is bigger than 9500...

Simply bigger fan, bigger air contact surface... bigger is better

Bigger is not always better. Take a look at the Scythe "NINJA PLUS " 6 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler. It runs hotter then the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.. So your theory is off.

the thermalright ultra 120 extreme has alot more fins and more surface area than the ninja, the fins are also more densely packed together

Well I got one more for you. Thermalright IFX-14 Cpu Cooler. It's bigger and has more fins and theres only been a couple reviews. And hasn't beat the smaller Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme yet.

Design of the heatsink has an important role in determining it's cooling ability, but if you have a bigger version of the same heatsink, it will perform better. Look at the Zalman 9500 and 9700.
