I couldn't see a where/what to buy section but saw another similar post here so I hope this is alright in this section. :)

Ok so I'm researching a build for a friend's new gaming machine. He has case, speakers, keyboard, mouse, monitor (19"@1280*1024), optical drives already that can be reused. We're trying to keep the machine fairly quiet too.

He wants to play Crysis, COD4, NFS: Pro Street, TDU etc at max settings and future-proof himself a bit.

Budget = Around AUD$2500

From my research, current parts list:
- ASUS P5E Motherboard (For 1600FSB, 45nm, DDR2-1200, PCI-E-2.0 support etc) ($350)
- Intel Q6600 G0 (SLACR) ($338)
- Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme & Scythe S-Flex 120mm ($100); or OCZ Hydrojet if it lives up to the hype.
- G.SKILL Twin Pack 2x2 gig (4gig Total) CL5 DDR2 800Mhz (PC2-6400) Model: F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ (5-5-5-15, 1.8-1.9v) ($360)
- Silverstone OP850 850w Power Supply Unit Olympia Series (Single 70A 12v, Dual 8pin + Quad 6pin, 6sata, 120mm Fan) ($261)
- ASUS 8800GTX ($750); or 8800GT(S) if he decides to wait a little.
- Western Digital 400GB SATAII KS 16Meg Cache Cache ($120)
- Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM ($269)

That's around the $2500-2600ish mark which is ok.

Does this seem like a good combo for overclocking? I'm open to suggestions.

looks like a good combo and all, but the 8800gtx needs more then 1080*1024 to be used all the way :/

No harm in abit of overkill. I think Crysis might push the card a little on Ultra High Settings though ;)
