I need to send a WiFi signal roughly 1/2 mile. I have a friend who has a Comcast broadband connection and she lives across a field from us.

What type of 2.4ghz router could I use with this WiFi directional antenna?

I am thinking that I will need something a little more powerful then your typical Linksys.....

Then do I put a repeater in another room in my house to receive the signal with the same dish connected to it?

Before you drop $250 on some fancy antenna. You should try a cantenna.

And DIY how-to's here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN_1oe3z7EQ) and here (http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html)

And the most important thing you need to bear in mind, you absolutely need line of sight between the 2 locations

a parabolic dish can get you 5 miles... kitchen wok or a strainer works pretty good ;)

If you have line of sight, a solid 10+Mbs link with two panel antennas and decent consumer equipment should be no problem at all. I have a solid 2Mbs link to an access point over 1/2mi through many trees with omnis on both ends.

first thing you have to consider is that you are breaking your comcast EULA or your friends and if comcast finds out they will cancel and ban you from using their service.
you are not allowed to repeat or resell your signal outside your house.

wifi (small and large) is my business; 1/2 mile can be done with a linksys and the DD-WRT firmware with a couple of panel antennas or 9dBi omni's or some other stuff.
although i sell and design deployments that makes linksys look like crap, it can be done. 900mhz 30 mile links to 50 mile 5.8ghz, across mountaints to the entire town of Tempe, AZ, all the way up to licensed 6,11,18,23,60,80ghz links and laser optics gigabit radios.

the WRT firmware lets you run the 50mw linksys up to 250mw :)
a couple of small panel antennas pointed right at each other, setting one linksys in AP mode and the other in AP Client mode, is all you need.

ebay is your friend when it comes to finding lots of big name powerful antennas cheap.

parabolic dish's are total overkill. (i have a 12 mile link at 5ghz with parabilic dish's linking up at 35mbit)

the cantenna ones are neat homebrew antennas and cheap, so take a look there.
