Okey im looking at 2 HP compaq's right now.
8710P /w Nvidia NVS 320M 256megs
8710w /w Nvidia Quadro FX1600M 512megs <--- 200-300 dollars more expensive
Price difference between the two setups is about 200-300 dollars.
I do some moderate gaming, mostly RTS games. Im not into crysis, or Unreal anymore. I prefer games like supreme commander, and civilization series. I am also waiting for Spore to come out.
So is the FX1600M worth the extra price?
Oh also i need the battery life. So will the 512meg card eat more wattage?

I would look for the 8600M.
any particular reason why? I heard both the two cards listed are 8700GT's both DX10 compatiable.
Any reason on why i should look at the 8600M?
EDIT: 8600M GT is out of the question. Only laptops to support it is the ASUS. God save me if i buy an ASUS lappy. CSR blows with asus.

I was not aware this "Nvidia NVS 320M" and "Quadro FX1600M" were 8700 chips.

u dont want an nvidia chiped laptop since then u get an nvidia chipset and support on them sucks my dv6k has so many problems with teh nvidia chipset, but the quatro chip will be coded for ogla dn not for dx so u would want to go for the 8700
but the 2600 is the way to go since it has the best picture quality of the midrange and the best cinematic playback

i heard u can use 8700 drivers on the card with a little mod to the inf files.
Also how does the 2600 compare to the NV 320M in terms of games and battery life?
Also since when was a 2g lappy considered mid range? >.< i know its not XPS and Alienware class, but man, 2g is considered mid range?

they probly have similar battery life the 2600pro for laptops should be low power though and the desktop one is like 65W so ide guess 50W on the laptop or less
