It looks good so far and I guess thats all anyone can say until it's released.
The features are there. Price will play a big part but I guarantee it will be over $400.00 and wouldn't be surprised if it's over $500.00.
Isn't going to be cheap to build.
Just an educated guess but:
Board:$500.00
cpu's: $2800.00+ for the 2 top QX9775's(3200mhz)
memory:$600.00? for 4x1 gig DDR2-800FBDimms thats not released yet so no pricing
There's $4000.00 before you buy a case,drives,vid,etc..
Want to add 4 top vid cards and go first class?
Your at $6000.00+
Add some raptors, and all the rest and your looking at a $7000.00 system

Skulltrail I heard is going to be very limited, with a HUGE pricetag. Not to mention its Socket 771 and not 775.

i'm not sure because it's a really long wait for just the same but then double useless

My 2 cents: Build yourself a Q6600 system now with the x38 chipset and save a bundle and if you get a good chip that will do 3400- 3600 24/7 you've got all the power that you will need for anything..
And you can pay for a year at a local good college with the money you save.:D

i don't do overclocking because i tried overclocking my coppermine and then i set it back to factory defaults but it became slower...

Overclocking a chip but then setting back to defaults don't make the chip slower than it was originally. The difference is you got used to the overclocked speed so it just appeared slower ;)

Comparing your experience with the coppermine to todays products is like comparing a 1956 Buick to a 2007 Corvette..
Let me say it so it makes sense: I have 2 clovertown systems here.
Factory speed is 2667mhz. With upgraded fans and heatsinks I run them at 3157mhz WITH 100% load 24/7 since last December

 Perfect..

760 posts here and you dont OC? thats odd for this forum :p:

Really no reason NOT to overclock with as easy as it's become on today's high end hardware.

There is no point in waiting Skulltrail 'cause this platform will be too expensive.
If you wanna 3GHz fnd NVIDIA SLI then go for it right now.

The cheapest I've found that I could do a dual quad gaming machine is $4,500 (with all my peripherals and monitor :D ) so it's not too terrible, but then again you can save money on the mobo and procs and put that to use elsewhere on a single quad machine.

Really it's up to you how to spend your money. The usefulness of a dual quad system, or any system for that matter, is up to how you plan to use it. Remember, we don't tell you how to spend your money, we just try to guide you in the best direction.
