Oaky im looking to build a home server..

I posted at 2cpu and got poo pooed...

I want to build a dua lquad setuyp and do not know hwwhether to wait hte 2 months and see whats going on (I want to buy the ram now, while the prices are still good) or start building completely now (build an entire PC on credit...)

I am looking at hte dual socket F ASUS board.. its SLI which sucks... really rather have a quadfire... but it does not matter... I want 4 pciE slots.. .cuz 2 in dua lgpu mode will be fore the main OS (gaming and VMs) and the other 2 will be for external usage + HDTV so at this point thinking 1 8800gt one 2600xt ... with another 2600 for 2 remote users (non-thin clients) with room to expand to another 8800gt for sli gmaing mode..

but the main reason i like the XXXXXXX board is the 12 SATA ports..

Part of the reason I want to go octo core is affinty... with 8+GB of ram... and a 80GB hdd for each guest OS... I should be able to reduce the strain on the host OS to the point that gaming performance will not be hindered.

My goal is one PC home server.. doing HDTV pvr duties (when they relese hd pvr cards) in the midle of hte house.. two keyboard mouse monitor setups to the upstairs so I can game and still mutlitask... and one KM/V/S to the downstairs for the kids....

I want to build a PC that can run stock for now... and has the capability to overclock so that in a year or two I can stay competitive wihtout needing to buy all new stuff.....
just new VGA cards

So any tips on a octo system?

I wolud wait for intels platform as well.

@ Movieman: do you know who is selling the new 1.5v DDR2 FB-DIMMs from Micron? Or some one who tested them and reported back something.
I stumbled upon them while searching for FB-DIMM power consumption vs. DDR2 (which is cca. more than double (around 12W per biscuit) by the way...)
