Widescreen monitor, as well as TV out to 60" HDTV.
I do not need this for gaming, but would like to drive a 22-24" Monitor, as well as my TV ( 60" Sony SXRD LCoS ) to hidef resolutions.
Seems like there is so much to consider and beware of. Can someone help out and make this fairly simple.
I don't need to have the cheapest, but am by no means looking for an 8800xxx or anything. Would a 1950 or similar fill my needs? What special needs or features should I know about and take into consideration.
I do not have the widescreen LCD yet, looking to get a 22-24" model, eventually and I'd like to be prepared.
Any recommendations?

Do you need HDCP?
If not just find a used GeForce 4 Ti card or something similar.
No need for powerful 3D ability here.

go for the 2600xt or 2900pro depending on the budget the hdmi out will work much better than component or dvi on a tv

Well, I don't have a WS monitor yet, is HDCP compliancy desirable?
Under what circumstances do I need HDCP? Is that for BluRay and HD-DVD stuff only? Do they have the HDCP problems/incompaibilities I've heard about ironed out yet?

Regarding HDMI: My TV has HDMI in, but I am not sure it is capable of getting a signal, that way, from a PC. It has a dedicated D-Sub input for that. Currently, I use VGA ( D-Sub ) out, with a 5 cable breakout, then conversion back to D-SUB, for my PC to TV connection.
I guess what I'm asking, and am curious about is, do I need something special to drive a Widescreen LCD monitor to relatively high resolutuions ( at least 1900 x 1200 )?

The answer to your question is no.
However if you want future compliance zanzabar has the right idea. The 2600 series is the perfect HTPC card right now.
Think about it, we have had video cards for many years capable of our monitors resolutions which scale up to and beyond 1080p. This was around long long before the "HD" specifications came about for TV resolutions.

Yeah, true.
I have a Sapphire x800 GTO, and have been talking with "[XC] leviathan18". He told me I'd be fine with that. I've just never had to drive a screen to much higher than 1280 x 960, and have never driven a widescreen ( other than my TV, to 720P ). So, I was worried about being able to do what I wanted.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. :)

but if u want to play drm content like netflix video or blue ray/hd dvd u will need a drm htpc compliant card to get full rezolution, but so long as u have an ati card u should be fine, dont get suckered into pure video from nvidia its horable quality and not drm htcp compliant
