Anyone here know if the new Nero 8 Recode will use all four cores? If you have a quad core would you please install the demo and see if it will use all the cores? I wanted to convert my DVD of Saving Private Ryan from DVD to x264. Also I wanted to resize it to 1280X720. I started the process and well it is taking a lot longer than I anticipated.

Don't have a quad, nor Nero 8 but why would you want to resize a 720x480 movie up to 1280x720. That's why it's taking so long and you will lose a lot of quality.

Also disable Video Preview to make it go faster :)

Don't lose a lot of quality. You can set the bitrate to any size you want. I have done the same process with Black Hawk Down and it looks pretty good to me. I am resizing it to HDTV because in the near future I am going to be buying a HDTV. These files are on my HTPC so it's not like I am making them into a x264 file then burning them to a DVD.

Video preview doesn't add to the time. Believe me I've been using Recode for a year now. I've tried with it off and on and there is no difference. I found it strange too because other programs are faster with it off.

Well you can give it as much bitrate as you want it won't improve the quality over what the DVD already has to offer.
I hope you know what you are doing, because while it may still look reasonable on your current computer, it may look a lot worse on your HDTV because of a higher resolution. (look at those soldiers in the background, they look blurry)
My advise would be to encode it at a resolution lower than 720x480 with correct Aspect Ratio because your HDTV is gonna do the upscaling anyway.

Just give it a try, it will speed up the encoding process by a lot and soldiers in the background will look less blurry.

Sorry for being somewhat off topic though^^
Hope someone will answer your question about multithreading

My friend has a Q6600 and he reported a normal avi file ripperd from DVD in duration of 85min took 22min to recode and burn onto DVD video disk for his viewing pleasure :D

I can ask him to try and resize the frame size and try a different higher bitrate if hehas the time.

If I use AutoGK and rip the movie to a XviD 700MB the process takes about a hour and a half.

I suspect those soldiers in the background are blurry because they wanted to focus on the actor in the shot. I understand that increasing the bitrate won't do anything to the original file I was pointing out that the file is about the size of two blank CDs and the quality looks fine to me. The reason I uploaded that last pic is because it looks around the same time frame as the one Hilbert always posts at Guru3D when he explores the HD playback of a card. And now that I look for his example I can't find it, go figure.

I used a Q6600 @ 3.0GHz. Recode used all 4 cores but didn't max it out. When I use Nero Vision to make my Divx files into DVD it uses up to 88% of my 4 cores. Huge improvment from my E6600 dual core. Hope that helps you.

Thank you for taking the time to upload that. Lately I've been messing around with a lot of video files and this Operton doesn't seem to be cutting the mustard. I thought I read somewhere that since DivX 6.6 (I think the new one is 6.7) it is able to use up to 4 cores.
