i've just looked through this article: Gigabyte X38-DQ6 vs Asus Maximus Formula - The Battle of the X38 Giants (http://vr-zone.com/articles/Gigabyte_X38-DQ6_vs_Asus_Maximus_Formula_-_The_Battle_of_the_X38_Giants/5306-1.html). comparison (http://vr-zone.com/articles/Gigabyte_X38-DQ6_vs_Asus_Maximus_Formula_-_The_Battle_of_the_X38_Giants/5306-11.html) shows that even top X38 motherboards aren't much better than that P5K Dlx. now i've P35-S3 rev. 1.0, C2D E6420 and X1950GT. i think about getting P5K Dlx/Premium and 1 more X1950GT to CrossFire it. and my question is need i X38 or it'll be enough for me to get a good P35 motherboard? what is the difference between X8+X8 and X16+X16 CF mode? smbd can advice me to sell my current gpu, add few $$ and get smthg like 8xxx an nVidia card, but i'm not nVidia fan, so understand me in a right way please.

zanzabar, what is the difference between PCI-E 2.0 and PCI-E 1.1? does doubled data rate of 2.0 make it much better?

pci-e2 has 250W through the slot and 250mhz bus clock with an added side bus for addressing

its something that i wouldent want to miss out on

also on teh x38 it has duel x16 pci-e2 slots that are backwards computable and ati has some clock settings that u can oc the pci bus with pci-e2 for crossfire and single card from 120mhz to 200mhz witch should increase the bandwidth on the card buy about 50% (this is on the x1600 and up)

zanzabar, thanks. i'll wait X38 appear in stores of my city.

keep in mind that thats interface bandwidth not memory bandwidth, and in november ati has the 2950 and its going to be cheaper than the 2900pro pci-e2 way less power usage and faster shaders so ati is fixing their weak spots, and with faster shaders and still haveing 300 of fthem it should be the fastest card until the 2950xt comes out in december/january

thanks again. i'll take it into consideration.

Lol? Try PCIE 2.0 = 150W and PCIE 1.1 is 75W

Why can you never get anything you say right Zanz? And where is this ATI setting for crossfire or single card? I am not seeing it and I am on Maximus. And where in the PCIE 2.0 specs is there a side bus for addressing? PCIE2.0 was mainly an increase to 150W from the slot, and an increase from 2.5GT/s to 5GT/s for the interconnect bitrate.

So please show me what documentation you have been reading (or smoking) that says its 250W, with a side bus? and that ATI has some magical options to go from 120mhz PCIE to 200mhz, because I am on X38 with HD2900s and there is no such option.

EDIT: And I can actually provide factual links on subjects, unlike you Zanz who always says this and that but never has proof.

http://www.pcisig.com/specifications/pciexpress/base2/

Where in any of the documentation does it say what you stated? And if your having trouble reading it, I will quote stuff and put it into laymans terms for you.

EDIT2: And back to L'enFer's question, go with X38 its got more "futureproofing" to it with PCIE 2.0, and overall better better performance over P35, and will just get better as new BIOS come out, that are more finely tuned than whats currently out.

Well at least no one can accuse you of being condescending, oh wait.....

no...not from wot ive seen. it makes no difference at this point in time to graphics performance with 2x cf
havent seen 3x or 4x cf results tho...

if you have the right psu with the right connectors for your gcard/s then you dont need pci-e 2.0

but why quibble about getting a pci-e 2.0 boardy?

they'll probably bring out an x38 lt....and still not many x38's around are there?
still only gigabyte ones available in aus.

it's the 16x16x / 8x8x scenario again - ie it makes no difference.

PCIE2.0 was mainly an increase to 150W from the slot, and an increase from 2.5GT/s to 5GT/s for the interconnect bitrate.
what will strain the "new" bandwidth? 3x R700's? 3xG100's?

if u want 'high end' cf then i spose you'll go for pci-e 2.0...but i reckon with 2x cf it's a total waste of time

i think about getting P5K Dlx/Premium and 1 more X1950GT to CrossFire it.
Crossfire is inteded for top videocards like X1950XT, X2900XT, etc... There is no sense of making Crossfire of two X1950GT. You'd better reserve GA-P35-S3, sell X1950GT and buy a single videocard like 8800GTS.

what is the difference between X8+X8 and X16+X16 CF mode?
Here is an article: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ati_p965_crossfire_performance/
and here too: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2837

I would accept accurate, albeit condescending information all day long, over palatable misinformation........... :p: :yepp:

My guess is that guy doesn't act like that in his everyday life, he knows better.... or should anyways.

Its not an isolated case of Zanzabar posting complete BS. Look around, condescending or not, the guy talks a big game about stuff but mostly makes it up, and has no basis. He has been spoken to many times about it to, I dont generally respond to people like that.
