Well ok im not really that big a newbie, i have built several PCs in the past so i know what to do with regards to the actual physical aseembly.

What i dont know however, is whats hot and whats not, nowadays. I generally dont pay attention to the computer evolution and to what the new concepts do (SLI, DDR2, crossfire, etc) and other trends in pc building (seems PSU's have gone up a LOT since last i built a pc for example)

Im buying a new computer, aimed at gaming and some CADing (autocad, triflex, cosmos, etc)

I have all external things (peripherals?) like monitor, mouse, kb, and harddrives, so i am only buying CPU, GPU, PSU, case, mobo and ram sticks

RAM
Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4 DDR2, 2048MB CL4,

Case
Cooler Master Mystique 631,

Mobo
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 Hovedkort, P35, Socket-775,

PSU
Corsair Powersupply 620W, 120mm

CPU
INTEL CORE 2 E6850 3.00Ghz 1333/4M S775

GPU
CLUB3D GF8800GTX PCIE 768M 384BIT DDR3

I have been looking around a lot the last week on various hardware sites, mainly norwegian ones. Im not interested in buying the absolute best, nor THAT interested in overclocking, but i do want quality items from well established brands and manufacturers.

What i am mainly worried about, is my PSU enough ?
Does everything physically fit ? The graphics card is particulary long compared to its counterparts, will it actually fit in the case ?
Any huge mistakes i should rectify, maybe one of my components are exceptionally bad, for whatever reasons.

Budgetwise i am staying on what i have now, 11000 NOK, which is about 2k $ with todays low dollar price and the norwegian crown being at its strongest ever. Also, i am buying everything from a store down my street so dont go off suggesting zalman stuff or other niche items :)
In fact, i am mainly just looking for a confirmation that everything i have works together, and that my PSU is beefy enough

Thanks

JD

looks good except for ram that ram is promos and has 0 ocability and it will run hot, u also might want to swap into a quad core they arnt much more than the 6850 and many more apps can use the quad

and nov12th has a bunch of new hardware

yeah i really recommend the quad as well, especially if you are going to be doin some 3d rendering. The quads are much faster at those programs than the duals, even at lower speeds. and I dont know about club3d, so I would go with a different GPU manufacturer, like MSI, eVGA, or asus

So deja vu-esque for me...dunno why.

Everything looks good, but wait for the 8800GT (updated model) and get the q6600 or if not a quad, get the E6750.

Plus get some corsair ballistix ddr2 800 2gb, not the corsair memory.

Everything else is fine.

if u are doing alot of cad u will want an ati grafix card since its has much better still image and video quality, but if its mostly for gaming and u swap out grafix every few years the 8800 is the way to go

You mean Crucial Ballistix, not Corsair. :p:

Thanks for the input

I was recommended to go for a dual core (my original plan had that 6600 quad) because aparently each core in the dual has more power than the ones in a quad, so on programs not supporting multi processor the dual would outperform the quad, or some such, ?
Zero idea if this is the case or not

I do know that for example lineage 2 doesnt support multi processors at all, from hearing people i play it with complain about it; a program specifically needs to support dual or quad core to be able to utilise it ?

The ram is unswappable, i have already ordered the PC (forgot to mention that :o ) but they had everything except the ram and psu on storage, so those 2 components are the only 2 i technically have bound my self to have to buy, meaningi can swap out everything else. They do also have the 6600 quad on storage ( Intel CORE2 Quad Q6600 2400MHZ 775 8MB ) so i can propably just buy that instead on the day i go to purchase everything.

go for the quad it will have a much longer life span and if u are talking about what quads can do cysis and cod4 are both designed for 4 threads so the games are coming, and auto cad dose 8 cores so u will see benefits

but to get full use of the quads then u would need xp pro x64 or vista to have 4 active threads or xp pro to have 2 active and 2 queued

and
Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC6400 2048MB CL4
is ordered now :)

I dont need a 64 bit OS to run the processor do i ? :o

no, u dont *need* - but u have the option :D that cpu is fine to use in either 32 or 64 bit OS
