Why is my graphics card crashing?

My system is :

Pentium 4 2.8 "C"
Asus P4C800 Deluxe Latest Bios Installed
BBA R9600 Pro with latest drivers
2x256 Corsair XMS 3200 LL Platinum

for some reason after playing in a game the game freezes but I can still hear the sounds and even the msn messenger thing when someone signs in , but I can't do anything about it.

The only settings I have in the bios are:

128mb AGP Aperture (dont know how to spell that)
and the cpu is overclocked to 2.9 by the Asus I guess easy overclocking thing , I have done any manual stuff yet.

I tried moving the AGP settings to 4x AGP and Fast Writes off but still the card crashes. :rolleyes:

Welcome to Xtreme.

I would have to guess that it's either heat related (the gpu is overheating) or you need to flash the bios of the vid card. In the bios, have you locked the agp so it's not so far out of spec when raising your fsb? If you don't have a lock agp feature, try raising the dividers for the agp/pci.

hmm I dont think I have locked it as for the divider stuff is that the 66/33 mhz stuff ?

i wouldn't use the Ai Overclocker, I have read that it is crap and will cause your system to crash if you go over 15 0r 20% overclock using that.

when you use the Ai Overclocking it causes the agp/pci speed to increase too making your system unstable...just manually overclock it.

can you give me hints on what I should have the settings on?

Radeon 9600 PRO BBA
Intel p4 2.8 "C"
2x256 Corsair 3200 LL TwinX
40gb Maxtor / 120gb WD SE its on the raid IDE port but set as IDE its the one that has the games that crashes so far, havent tried any games yet just got a Antec TrueBlue 480W.

put the agp/pci lock at 66/33

ram @ 2-3-3-6 @ 200mhz

just try useing one hard drive and set it as master and put it on the ide channel, set the maxtor as slave and put it on a diff channel or something.

download rivatuner or powerstrip and make sure the card is at default.
