Currently I'm boasting:

ASUS A8N5X socket 939
AMD x2 3800
2 GB OCZ DDR2 400
Radeon HD 2900 XT
Raptor 150GB
WD 320 GB

I'd like to upgrade my processor, motherboard, and memory. I've been looking at some DDR3 setups. Is now the right time to upgrade or should I wait until it gets closer to Christmas / sometime after? I'd really like to push DDR3 and I'd like to stay AMD what are your opinions? Is it worth me switching to intel? I'd like to spend no more than 900 on these three things. Thanks guys.

if you are going to go amd then u will need to wait until q1 08, if u are going to go intel or get a place holder am2 and an am2+ mb then nov 12th

and yes i would say that thats a worthy upgrade

Keep the gpu...you're cpu has your rig bottlenecked as it is.

Upgrade the mobo and cpu ONLY, this coming February, keep everything else.

Plus I believe we'll have Vista SP1 by then so a clean install with that will go a LONG way in giving you a substantial update.

i think that he needs memory since hes on 939 i think that the ddr2 400 is a mistype for ddr1

Yes, sorry I meant DDR 400. I've been looking at the ASUS P5K3 DELUXE motherboard with the Intel Quad Core Q6600 Kentsfield and Team Xtreem 2GB DDR3 1333. I figure if I grab the DDR3 now, I can upgrade again later without having to sell out for a new motherboard. Does it make sense to do that? Is the Q6600 still a reasonable upgrade, it's been out for a year now?

u should wait till nov 12th for the new 12mb l2 quads and the full launch of the x38, unless u can get a dq6 x38

yes u should do what they all said.
but if you can afford ddr3; then you mayaswell go for it now
but i'd want an x38 for ddr3.

i doubt whether ddr3 will drop in price in the next 3 months...but maybe it will.?

DDR3 requires skill not becoming of a DDR1 user.

It's like going from ocing a smithfield to Penryn, you just won't be able to get out of that rig as much as you want to.

Go ddr2 first, then go ddr3.

Yeah what they said, wait for the new stuff to come out.

So it's really worth waiting for the newer stuff to come out? I shouldn't go with the Q6600? Wont the newer processors be extremely expensive? My budget is around $800 - $900 and the ram I've been looking at is costing around $240 which leaves around $560 - $660 between a motherboard and processor. Plus a PSU the one I have now is only 550 Watts. And what about AMD? Does the Phenom X4 look promising at all?
