Right fellas! I'm done playing the Asus game, and I've rejoined the market for a new motherboard.. word is x38 is out wednesday, however I've had my eyes set on the Abit IP35-Pro for a while now. At this awkward time, what would you lot go for?

Elaborate a little more please....faulty like what? where?
Sata issues?

well no. Basically the first one was a massive screw up, and the audio stopped working, the digital co-axial somehow became shot, and took a set of z-5500's with it! My next board, didn't have the sound issues, however, it did have the wonderful property of killing my ram. First set was a G.skill 1066 set with a rated voltage at like 2.4v, however the second set was a crucial ballistix at 1.8v which was quite easy to figure out.

So now I want shot of the p5k deluxe, whatsmore, it's discontinued, so I'll probably be shuffled a P5K-E or something equally insulting.
Here's my basic setup

E6850
4gb (2x2gb) OCZ Platinum XTC PC6400 DDR2
8800GTX
150gb Raptor
2x320gb Barracuda
500gb Samsung

no soundcard, OCZ GameXtreem 700W psu, all in a dual waterloop TJ07. The system has been pretty much out of use for a couple of months now, I want a motherboard that'll do me some justice!

P5K Dlx killed my RAM as well, some of it quite expensive.

My 2nd and is not able to go past 450FSB. 0503 allowed 450 no other allow any clocking at all what so ever on it. Asus can suck my........ if i ever by a bord off them again.

Right time to kill BIOS and return to the shop

I had a moderate overclock with 8 gig of RAM. Never overvolted the RAM. The 8 gig had run fine in an xbx2 prior to switching over and had survived a three day memtest session and countless prime/orthos blends and super Pi's. About 3 weeks after moving to P5K Dlx, bluescreens. And P5K Dlx was ROCK solid before that. Could not figure out the problem. Tried everything, eventually put the RAM back in XBX2 and got errors all over the place. Re-memtested it and got errors in seconds. RMA'd the RAM. Put in my Mushkin 4x1 gig sticks now, thinking it was just some random crap. Again no RAM overvolting. BAM! That RAM died in like 3 days. When I put that RAM back in my XBX2 it would give me the no RAM beep!! I paid like $450 for that Mushkin 4 gig back in the day and it was just gone. It was that cursed P5K board.

Maybe the FSB with 8 gig and high FSB just crapped out and became a RAM killer, voltage didn't matter. I don't know. Either way, XBX2 while lower OCing has been the most dependable board in the history of boards for me. I could drive a car over it and it would probably give the cub scout try to stay alive.

i had a p5k deluxe die also.

Definitely seems like the build quality of asus boards have gone down.

p5b deluxe was relatively solid... not sure what happened here.

Man I have been following the P5K OC thread, and some are having good results with the bios they are running now.

I actually was thinking this eaked the Abit IP35-Pro out as my favorite mother board right now. Abit is back on top now. I didn't realize the P5K DLX was discontinued now eathier.

With the IP35-Pro back on top. I still am wondering if I will have SATA issues or RAID 0 issues using the built in controller on the Pro?

I need 2 Raptor 150's to fly.

Man, I wish we had one clear cutt winner sometimes. I need the ultimate Penryn Quad OC'ing board, with strong RAID support right on the board.

Still looking, but the Asus P5k DLX is out now.

I have the Premium version and no issues. Not sure how u guys can have so many dead boards. Sure its not power related issue like a bad psu or something?

Well, my PSU hasn't caused any issues with my XBX2 and all other hardware is the same. Unless P5K Dlx was sensitive to certain PSU while XBX2 wasn't?

that's what I'm thinking, but one thing that might be making the boards die is that heatsink2 generates a lot of heat.

Heat could be an issue, but I doubt anyone overclocking would know better than to have poor ventilation in their case (I'm just generalizing). Somehow I just think its power related like a surge or something. I lost two vidcards when I swapped to the P5K series, x1900 and 7950GT. Both were connected to the 6pin PCI-x on my PCPower 1kw. I installed a cheapo x1300 and it works flawlessly. I switched to an Enermax Infiniti 720 and no problems ever since. Swapped between an RMAed 7950GT and now my 2900Pro and no issues. Both alive and well. It just happened all of a sudden.

Well, I'm caseless and had a fan on the 8 gig, but yeah, I thought maybe it was somehow heat as well. That's why I put 4 gig in after I returned the 8 gig. But 4 gig at stock volts with a fan really shouldn't have heat related death. And not only did 4 known good sticks of RAM die after going in the P5K Dlx, ALL FOUR (!!!) died so bad they each gave me the no-RAM beep when I tried them in my XBX2.

I don't even want to RMA the board because it cost me like $450 worth of RAM that I can't return anymore. I'm just too annoyed.

what are you guys doing to kill your stuff?

Erm clocking it!

Phase, Water, Air all of them made no difference

Yet my chip has done 4.3ghz on water!

Today i stuff 2 fingers up to Asus and go for an X38 Gigabyte :yepp: vomit colors FTW it seams

Well like someone else mentioned, I had an XBX2 before the p5k deluxe, absolutely no problems ever, this board is cursed.. As for the PSU issue, again my PSU has had no problems in the 2 years I've had it, and it's not a cheap job either!
Still noone has suggested a worthy successor except the mention of the gigabyte X38 board, tho I think it would be wiser to wait and take a glance at the offerings from Abit and Intel?

Won't be touching Asus again for sure. At the moment my main runner is the IP35 Pro, does anyone else have some input?
