Boy thats a loaded questions!!! I guess I would say, the latest or newest motherboard would be the best. being technology changes so quickly in the computer industry.......... P-35 or X-38 would be my recommendation....

Have look around, did you not even look first?

He wants SLI any way, so neither of those boards does him any good.

schizo3177, use the search, and look at the Striker extreme, and the EVGA 680i, and make your choice, not many options for 680i.

Striker Extreme, very problematic.................. in the bios area. For me it was a mission to do bios change and overclocking was nothing to write home about!

Not sure if I would own that 680i board. I personally RMAed three (3) of them!! I guess I focused on the title of his message "Best mobo", Which ain't the Striker Extreme.................

somebody can write modded drivers to make nVidia videocards work with X38 chipset as well as with 975X.

The 680i chipset is pretty much your only option if you want SLI. It's not a bad thing though, the board is well featured, had plenty of PCI-E and PCI slots, and overclocks pretty good too. Of the current crop of 680i boards the best one is the EVGA 680i A1. Or you could wait a month and see what the 780i boards bring to the table, but from early reports it's just a 680i with a brifge chip that enables PCI-E 2.0, which isn't a very big deal at all.

The problem with that is that person would have to continually be dependent on a modder releasing drivers every time a new games comes out in order to keep up with game compatibility for SLI. And as we've seen from the previous 85.96 drivers no one is interested in doing that, there's just no point or need anymore. At the time the 85.96's were modded there was no chipset that offered SLI on Intel's then new C2D platform hence the need for modded drivers. But as soon as the 590 boards appeared, the modded drivers were no longer needed. So recommending that someone get a X38 or 975X board for SLI in the vague hopes that someone will even make a modded driver to begin with is foolish.

Do not agree, and you know why.

But the OP needs to do some reading, and figure it out for himself, cause to be honest, all the 680i boards are a crapshoot.

And I'll disagree with you again. The EVGA 680i board has been doing me just fine. Many people I know are using one with no problems. To say they are crap shoot is way off. Sure there are some bad apples, just like all other mobo's but the the problematic ones are dwarfed by properly functioning models.

Well going to have to agree to disagree.

I still think it is a bit of a crapshoot, all the foxconn reference design's I have tried, EVGA and BFG squeeled on load, and ultimately failed after time.

The ABIT IN9-32X-MAX is a good solid board but poor bios for quad core.

The Striker Extreme is overpriced but clocks almost as well as the EVGA's, and has been very solid. They also have some problems, the 1303 has caused numerous "cpu-init" failures to folks on this forum, and the ASUS forum.

So as to a choice, have to make up your own mind.

then i can say wait for coming out of new chipset that will work with C2D and 2 nVidia gpus.
