Cool, but it's a bit too late IMO.
They should have released the boards with this cooler in the first place.

Thanks, I ordered one too ! hehe
Isnt this the one that will appear on the Max3 IC7?

Its the same one on the Max 3, or atleast the same one in the pics of the Max 3. It should be a decent hs, gota be better than the pos stock one that came on my IC7.

it should definitely perform better than the original one, i want to see if it's better than the tiger 1 i have on there now.

Here's what I just picked up for my NB cooling:

I'm waiting to get my new mobo to check it out, but it is well made and should kick ass compared to my iceberg, etc, that I use now.

Wow good link WxChaser ! that nb hs is the best I've ever seen ! you should be able to use "J" or "I" bolts with the 865/875 mbs too.
I didn't order the nb hs, but I just ordered some of there chip sinks.;)

Thanks - I haven't mounted it on my NF7 board yet, been waiting for the new mobo I am planning to use with the Prommy...but I can tell you how well made it is and it should really work well for nb cooling (air).

Oh yeah, the chip sinks that come with the NB cooler are pretty good! I like those a lot.

Can that NB cooler be used for a GPU cooler as well?
I have the Tharmaltake Tiger on my NB and it is much better than the stock fan from Abit. Much quieter and cools better.

i was going to order one of those, but
it's $32 vs. $5 abit one  and the only way it will work on my board is with epoxy and i really dont trust epoxy enough to use it. and i'm not going to spend $32 for something that might not work. :(
also another reason i'm not getting that one is, a person on abit's forums emailed the company and got a reply where they said they are in the process of making one that will fit the canterwood and springdale boards (in other words, it has hooks), so i'm going to wait until that comes out :D

why not get a thermaltake tiger1? they fit on the 4g4a boards with clips..

The tiger1 is a great nb cooler ! I had planned on putting one on the IC7, but I went ahead and bought the new Abit nb cooler. But the nb cooler that wxchaser linked to is just plain awsome !! solid copper !

a prommy or slk900 would hinder your ability to use it tho :( b/c its all fat n whatnot.

i just got the HSF in this afternoon and this thing is so much bigger than it actually looks in the picture. i would say it's 4-5x the size of the original hsf and it's also bigger than my thermaltake tiger1. abit suprised me on the size of this thing.

Great HS!
I'd like to know how it works!? :toast:
Also, sorry for the possible stupido questiono,
But what is a Zalman mod?
Major
07-19-2003, 11:04 PM
Its a moded Zalman nb hs, you cut the three corner risers off the heat sink (all four corners) and the factory abit nb hs hold down ring slides down over the modded zalman hs. It is suppose to work very well ! I'm not sure how the fan is held in place ?

I have this mod and I stick my default Abit fan to the HS by using Blue Tak on the centre of the fan and holding them together for a few mins with good pressure.
Hasnt fallen off at all in the last 3 weeks of using it and it has been knocked a few times too :)

its very easy to do, used a dremel to cut the 3 pin of each corner, then insert the original ring and attach the fan.
no glue, for 6 C drop and a 8 mhz increase in the fsb:D
The best of all : It is cheap:bounces:

What is the sensor that reads the NB temperature on the IC7?

Ithink it is the PWM.

My question exactly...what I have been asking since they first shipped ic7/is7 with them on there.
Thought you guys might like to know that there is a new zalman nb heatsink. Seems about the same as the old 1, but in the middle the pins are are about 1.5x as big. I don't know what kind of impact that would make on cooling, it doesn't seem like much.

I have both the new Abit nb hs like on the max3 and the tiger 1, I prefer the Tiger. I like the fact it uses all four clips vs only 2 on the abit. The Abit has a lot of surface area but the two clip hold down tends to lift the hs off the nb die in one corner. Both have serious machine marks and need to be lapped. The Zalman mod looks like it would be a good solution too, but for the same price you could pick up either the abit or the tiger and not have to do any mod ! hehe
As far as temps go, the PWM sensor is NOT the nb, it is a thermal diode located near the cpu socket or the power mosfets. There is not a thermal diode, nor an on die diode on nb.
Here are the thermal diode locations for the MSI Neo, IC7-G, and the P4C800. (I took the time to lacate them all a few weeks ago)

A little off topic here...major you seem like a good person to ask...which mobo should i go for for pelt cooling 2.4c/2.6c at realy high fsb(hopefully 300+)...the ic7-g, or the p4c800dlx? I was waiting for the max3, but seems to me to just be an ic7 with goofy cooling that i don't care about, and a worthless vdim bump that will still need a vmod. Let me kow what you think. Thanks.
If I go with the ic7 I will use a temp diode to test temps and compare. If it comes with the new abit hsf it will be perfect, because I have a zalman sitting here, and a tiger 1 :D
You don't realy have to call the zalman mod a mod when refering to difficulty of instalation. You can use a pair of pliers and have it on in under 5 minutes...like my friends all did. The tiger would be easier, but not a big deal. If only that tiger was Cu...that would be so much better. I don't see much point in wc'ing the nb when it doesn't seem to hold back any oc with any reasonable nb cooler.
Oh and how is the asus cooler? I hear it just needs a fan and it is fine...but I guess I could just stick on a tiger, or atleast take it off, lap, put on some as3, and replace...if I get the asus.
...don't you ever end a post and say to yourself..."what the hell did I just ramble about for the last 2 minutes?" :D
Major
08-27-2003, 10:38 PM
Thats a tough one ! I like both the IC7 and P4C800, but if you look at the orb and wcpuid web site the Asus dominates so thats what I'd lean towards for super high fsb. I think Asus being so large of a mb maker they have the engineering and experince behind them.
gouda96
08-27-2003, 10:42 PM
What about nb cooling? You think just a lap/as3/fan or tiger1? Guess I could try both...pretty easy to switch out I guess.
So the p4c800 benches better...I never thought to check the orb, and the cpu database isn't realy the best place...people are lazy and don't submit their results...on the orb there are very few p4c800's, and the abit's dominate.
One last quick question...can I use smd grabbers on the p4c800 for a vdim mod?
edit--> just noticed in your sig you got your p4c800dlx on your main rig :D...man you get some killer oc's.
I forgot to remind you...like I always do...if you ever want to sell your mcw50-t...I will gladly take it...I am finally breaking down and getting one new, but I have decided to pelt cool my amd system now. I wouldn't have except the mcw462-uht dropped to like $80 on swiftnets, so if i can just get a psu...That means another videocard needs a pelt too :D

wow...that is pretty clear. I wish I had asked you sooner...don't know why i didn't...
p4c800-d it is :D...finally...that makes me feel good :D
eheheh did you see the #33 spot? an nforce2 board at 277 fsb...that is crazy. I was happy with mine 1700 dlt3c 0319 @ 11.5*240 on air...but I guess I could shoot for an extra 30mhz with pelts?
Super Crazy

i doubt that the newer Zalman NB cooler will make that much of a difference, but since i have ordered one i'll post some results once i have done the mod, only problem now though that i am foreseeing is due the the length of the Zalman and the socket orientation of the IC7 it could well mean that my SLK900U will not fit....
