Why can't anyone design modular video cards. When you buy a card it'd be kinda like a motherboard, no gpu or memory. YOu could upgrade and customize your vid card by changing memory modules (sockets like a BIOS chip) and upgrading to the latest RXXX gpu as available??

That would be very nice
Everytime GPU is upgraded you'd need to upgrade memory and then it wouyldnt have right memory bus and bandwidth

yeah, every new gpu has diferent signal voltages, needs diferent voltages to work and more pins and a wider memory bus.
memory cards are evolving way to fast...

still a great idea , though....

if there was a modular card you could upgrade from geforce 5900 rev a1 to the gpu reva2 or a3 so you could oc it a bit higher. the only place where it would really work and could be successfull would be upgradeable memory! do you remember those old cards you could plug some extra mem on. that would really be a great idear!
my 4200 with 2ns ddr1 memory would really kick 4ss! that would acutally a be a great idear and i think its posible!
we should ask abit about it, id pay at least 50€ extra for such a card!
