View Full Version : Need to lock an adult guest off porn, but how?

We have a houseguest who has taken it upon himself to go and look at porn on my computer and my wife's computer, for whatever reason. He's not discriminating in his choice of sites, so we have pretty nasty infections (this install is gonna have to go cause of it) and my wife is pretty offended. Content filtering software is something we looked at, but it seems to not disactivate if you need access to something, as well as blocking everything out there practically (no XS anyone?) and eats system resources to boot. We even had to ease my wife's graphics OC for some reason with it... but that could be a thermal issue too, as it loads the hell out of one of her cores...

So what's an intelligent way to stop this from happening? IP filtering, some such or something? I'm not a networking master, I know more about MMOs and watercooling/overclocking than I do about networking, but simple directions or good links will suffice for me to teach myself...

Simple solution, lock him to only a dozen preselected sites
Firefox has something similar to it http://www.glubble.com/

He's an adult? You walk up to him and when alone you tell him that he is spitting in the face of your hospitality and it stops now of his ass goes to the sidewalk.
That's my subtle way, my direct way I couldn't type.
It has to do with parts of his anatomy leaving the house before the rest of him.:D

Change the DNS servers to point to opendns.org

Then use the dashboard to add your ip and restrict what you are looking at.

Between the intelligent workarounds and the direct threats, I think we can come to an agreement.

Else, I have interesting toys from Kenjutsu that I'm sure I could introduce to him. Preferably while sleeping.

Thanks, those options will do just fine. He'll not be here forever.

Put a 1/3 bottle of Visine in his drink and I guarantee he will not come off of that Toilet for about 3hrs and Porn will be the last thing he will be thinking about!:D

Or jokingly tell him he should use firefox instead of IE to look at porn.
Works every time.

I like this solution.
I also feel strongly on what I stated above.
Guests don't insult their hosts this way.

i would just tell him, next time you pitch a tent there is going to be a forest fire, and i think that the problem would take care of its self

He got a "new computer" to check things on.

P200, 16 MB EDO, 4MB S3 Virge. AT format, yeah. I did put a NIC in it...

But I do believe that it is solved. I can be very convincing. I promise.

I would tell this person they were no longer welcome to use my computers or my network. It's not like a guest in your house is entitled to use your computer in the first place... it's not a TV.

Signup for Opendns. Use opendns dns servers. They have a buildin option inside account preference to block adult sites.
Thanks
