View Full Version : Squeking noices while running BOINC
Hello,
I've had this problem for quite some time now, for example, when I'm running BOINC on both my cores on my E6400 i hear these loud squeking noices. I did a test with Orthos today and found out that I only hear them when I'm stressing the RAM. It becomes louder the more load I have on my system. Because of this I can't run BOINC because the noice is so annoying. :/
My system:
C2D E6400 3.4Ghz
Asus P5B-E Plus
Corsair TWIN2X PC6400 2*1GB
HD 2900XT
Tagan Easy Connect 530W
Have anyone else experienced this or know what to do?

I was going to say bad cpu fan until I read it through..
I never heard of ram making noise.

Me either. Could still be a the cpu fan though. The more you stress the ram, the higher the cpu load too, right? Fan spins faster.

it is the motherboard that make those noise when you stress the ram, i had a DFI P965S before that do the same thing.

My DFI NF4 ultra also made noises. Nothing to worry about.

I've got a squeaky P5K-E board. Anytime I put a load on it, something starts making a very annoying noise. I'd send it back and get a replacement if you still can.

Yea my 680i did that got worse with more fsb. Try change out parts with a friend or something to know what it is. The motherboard is what I would guess dont think ram can make any noise we can hear. If it does good luck with that

Yeah, it's probably your mobo. I've had it more than once and it was because of bad caps (at least that was what they told me).
Thanks for your help.
Sounds like the mobo then because I know it's not a fan that makes these noices.

That's what happens when you don't feed them DDTUNG's "Special High Protein Hamster Supplement".

I would assume it's one of the chokes(inductor) on the motherboard "singing". You could try touching them with an eraser tip to see if the noise subsides and single out which one. You could then put some hot glue on it and see if that takes care of it.

My system makes my PSU make a slight squeak/buzz sometimes (not the PSU, I've changed PSUs). My old mobo would make that noise as well under load. I just said I could hear my CPU think :D
My first X1900XT made noises too - the PCB was severely bent across the vregs and they made all sorts of noise like they were arcing when under load  I RMA'd that one asap before it blew up.

Some videocards do this too. I would just RMA it and hope for a more silent replacement. Sucks to take out your mobo and ship it out though, so if youre sure you wont RMA try the method suggested by rcofell.

My Commando/PSU does that, not sure which. I'm ignoring it atm, untill it makes anything go odd, although random reboots happening =/ Although my old K8V-SE did it too!
