As the title states. I just signed up for WCG today and remembered F@H. Which one should I choose (lol asking this in a wcg forum). But really, any information would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm no expert on F@H but my understanding is it is protein folding to see what happens when a protein folds incorrectly.
Someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong here.
Very worthwhile program and I have run it myself.
WCG is a little different and more varied with work currently on AIDS, Dengue disease,Protein folding and climate control.
Go with what your heart and mind tell you is best for you.

My heart & mind are in conflict, so I run both...

What f@h does is to try and figure out why proteins fold the way they do. When proteins don't fold correctly, that is what causes disease. I think that is about right, but I'm no expert. :)

Probably best way to do it. I'm just on F@H for now, trying to keep others off my back (it isn't working too well lol) but I may run both again later on, we'll see.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll just run both :) . BTW, WCG seems MUCH easier to setup that F@H.

I have a link in my sig to setup guides for F@H if they might be of use to you :) But yeah I do agree BOINC is a little easier to get going, not quite as much to mess with.

Can yo uuse Multicores for F@H?

Yup. You can either run multiple standard CPU clients or you can run the SMP client in multi-core machines.

You could just buy an Ati videocard and fold on that while using your CPU for WCG. :)

Just purchased the 8800gts on friday so I'm not about to give it back :p: I'm pretty happy with it. I can play Lost Planet all on high settings DX10 w/ 60 FPS while runing WCG which I think is amazing :) Thanks for the link for the guide.

WCG needs every CPU it can get, F@H is second on our list because it can be done via GPU instead

The GPU does a different set of units than the CPU client, but yeah I know what you mean.

It's not like I have an ATI card though. I'm sticking with WCG. Better to do one 100% then halfA$$ both 50/50

how about 100% CPU WCG and 100% GPU F@H?
then you'll be 100% both ways

Because gpu folding needs a free cpu core to poll thus gpu folding (in my opinion) is better suited to rigs with slower processors.

Get something like a Sempy and a decent gpu et voila...cheap folding rig.

Using up a 3ghz Conroe core for example to feed a gpu would be pointless.
