Just over at WCG site looking at stats and here's a little motivator:
We are app 43-Q6600's away from matching EasyNews output on a daily basis.
Yea, they don't seem to be the impossible to catch monster they did a year ago do they?:D
That should be goal #1 in our little competition.
Goal #2 is hauling in team2ch..Tougher but doable I think with a "few" od a certain chip thats coming soon..:wasntme:

Ok, that was the polite Dave, now the not so polite Dave:
Lets go and get these bastages!

If I can get it fixed I am knocking that down to 41. Going to work on it now and see what died :shakes:

Equaling the daily output of Easynews is very doable. Catching Team 2ch is another matter. They are now averaging over six million points a day and have built nearly a 100 million lead. You would likely need to average 8-9 million a day to have any realistic chance of catching them in a reasonable time frame.

Team 2ch will likely take over the number one spot in a little over a year's time.

Dave, I admired your optimism. But you still need to find a way to produce another five million a day. That's more than 200 dual Clovertown rigs running full throttle, or 300-350 overclocked quad cores.

Who said anything about clovers..I think there's going to be some really shocked faces when they see what the new chips can do..;)
I am optimistic, yes, but I also run numbers and look at them.
Team2ch is catchable. Remember last year when people said :" OMG,3 million s day, we'll never get there."..We're there..It's step by step my friend.
Like a long walk..Looks tough when you start but gets shorter with each step.
There have been almost 100 new members in the last 2 weeks that are still working out details and getting their feet wet.
I think we'll see some great things from these people in the next few weeks as they become comfortable and knowledgeable of WCG.
Think on this: On May 30 the Xs WCG team was doing 1.7 million a day.
Now, app 3.2 mill a day and growing.
Positive attitude, some good old fashioned hustling and resourcefulness will get us there my friend.

Dave, I think this team has accomplished a lot, given its relatively small size. Being number one has never been my goal. Helping science has always come first. The competition is just the fun aspect. I really don't care anymore who passes me or who I pass in the individual stats. I took time out to crunch for my alma mater because from my point of view, the completed workunits are going to the same cause, regardless of what team I'm on. I don't think the scientists really care if it's an XS workunit or one from Team 2ch. The important thing is contributing in whatever way possible.

"Set impossible goals so that when you do accomplish them, you realise that you have accomplished something meaningfull"
yes, I am stubborn but I also have known from the first week that I came to Xs the huge computational power that resided here.
If we can harness just 1/20th of the machinery here there isn't anyone anywhere that can match us.
This is why I talk to people about this constantly.
One member added here, another there,it adds up.
I look at the work we do and how many years we will cut off of the research time needed to beat these diseases and that is all the motivation I need.
Then you hear from our new friend the other day of his sister-in-law with Lukemia and it makes you know that this is what is needed.
We will get there because I absolutely refuse to accept anything else.
Ok, you can now go and laugh about the crazed old guy but thats how I feel.

We think alike but also different. To me being #1 is the work that gets done to get there.
That is the equation to me and it's that simple.

Hhmmm...... Anyone want to buy an E6700 from me so I can buy a Q6600?

Coroner Kyle

Got a Q6600 on the way, but we're only gaining two cores b/c it's replacing my E6600. I need a mobo for this E6600. I think I might have the rest of the parts, well I'll need a heatsink also. Oh god, this is getting out of control.

The number one spot would be very nice, but it's the work being accomplished along the way that makes getting to number one a worthy cause.

yeah seeing us above easy news in the dailies would be awesome.

I do agree with sierra tho in a way, but then with movieman in another.

what builds motivation? well competition ofcourse! I love to know that i all goes to a great cause, but lets face it, humans love competition, and it drives us to excell. sure it'd be awesome if everyone did it just to help. but without quantifing how much you are helping or setting it up in a competition format lets face it alot less people would be invloved. even in volunterring people have to get some kind of satisfaction back, ours comes in points and placement.

That being said, I have a TON of stuff I am gonig to be adding to our sub team. I am kind of disappointed because I have had several people get bored quickly and stop running it... But I've got everything I need to add the following in the next week:

1x c2d 6400
1x c2d 6600
1x c2d 4400
1x 939 x2 3800
1x 939 3500+
2x 754 2600+ sempy
4x axp various speeds 1.7 - 2.3ghz

all but one of those c2d will be in house, so i know they'll be running 24/7, hopping to get most of that going this weekend. that should be a good 25k boost daily (hopefully) and put us close to 30k a day.

the competition of this hobby makes it fun, and i am glad to share it with such a great community! onward and upward!

When I joined WCG, I did not join to simply compete with others or just to get higher points to show how geeky I am.

I joined because I enjoy rackmount assembly and wanted to aid the medical science. Well, I will be more honest. It gave me a perfect reason for me to spend money on parts for assemblies.

For good of the others, I kept telling myself as I assembled units for BONICing, but I knew that chances for me to see any sort of distinctive result for crunching is slim to none, but I still crunch anyway in hopes to see some real result one day during my life time.

The one that used to be in my avatar has a modified 50hp Merc and runs ~86 mph when set up for competition. Will run faster but isn't "raceable" with top end set ups. I have another, slightly larger hull that will have a modified 75hp on it. Should run close to 100mph....
