Ok i've been reding these forums for a while now trying to decide on my next pc, i currently have a laptop and have not bourght anything for it so far, and so all suggestions are welcome

I should mention that i am from the Uk  , have a budget of around £1400 :( but as low as possible for the performance is my aim  .

The system will be used mainly for unreal tournament 3 and other "next gen" games

curent plans:

CPU: Q6600 G0 stepping (£175) :yepp:
HS: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme* (£45)
MB: Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus** (£105)
RAM: 2Gb OCZ Sli ready Ram*** (8500) (£95)
GPU: nVidia 8800GTx (£305)
PSU: Corsair HX620W PSU**** (£90)
SPU?: Creative X-fi (the cheapest with x-ram) (£90)
HDD: 2 x 500Gb Hitachi Deskstars SATA, NCQ, 16Mb cache etc...(raid 0) (£125)
LCD: open to suggestions, thin black frame @ 1600x1050 19" or higher (samsung 226BW looks good) (~£220)
Case: again open to suggestions, a lian li case would be nice but they seem quite expencive, also like the look of the thermaltake armour jr (black) and the antec 900 (~£80)
OS: was thinking of going to vista x64, but have heard lots of stories of incompatible programs? any experience would be welcome
NET: some wifi card 108.11b/g probably linksys (~£20)
DVD: SATA DVD R/W from samsung (~£20)

* would this require lapping because i do not feel to confident in doing this...
** i would like to achieve an FSB of 400Mhz (rated 1600) and run the ran at a 1:1 ratio (DDR2 800) with tight timings. would the board support this?
*** would this ram be overkill for ddr2 800?
**** i have heard this is powerfull enough to run 2 8800Gtx's and an overclocked quad core? is this true? and if so, is it advisable or would it be to close to the max output of the psu?

That comes to roughly £1470 but it is all open to change :D

i would like the option to add another 8800 in the future for sli

again all suggestions are welcome

Thanks

P.S. I have a friend with a striker extreme and he is thinking of going the watercooling route, would the cooling solution from the striker extreme board (NB, SB, VRM's be a straighforward swap onto the P5N32-E SLI Plus   :D

bump... anyone any thoughts?

i have since seen the coolermaster CM690 and this looks like the case for me (though i am waiting for the rumored windowed version) + its cheap :)

also i am thinking of getting the DFi lanparty UT 680i LT (£160) instead of the asus board as i intend to run a wireless card and sound as well as (eventually) sli

Why not go with the DFI P35 as mobo? Oh and x-ram is bullcrap.

I was thinking of buying a second 8800Gtx when they get cheaper, the P35 only supports crosfire afaic, not SLi.

Also i am not sure about the x-fi... if i had the money i would go for that Auzentech card, but i think i will go with the X-fi xtreme gamer as it has most of the features of the more expencive cards and can be pluged directly into external audio ports iirc.

For your system a Lian-Li V1200 would be awesome.

:) my original plan was to use a black V1000... but i would have wanted a matching front fan and window panel and that would have pushed the price of the case alone to around £200 O.o
