So I have a voltmodded EVGA 8800GTX. Its watercooled with Swiftech MCW60.

I have been running it at 1.55V for a couple of weeks, and the temp never goes above 44C. I just check the temps from rivatuner after running 3dMark06. Is that a good indication of full load on a vid card, or is their some sort of max load for a gpu like prime 95 for cpu?

Now today I thought the card used to idle at around 65 and load well into the 70s when it was at stock clocks, volts and cooling. I am nowhere near those temps so I decided to increase the volts to the gpu.

I put 1.7V into it and it was idling at 44C, still fine IMO.
I ran 3dmark06 at 729/1944/999 and it got half way through Proxycon and the screen went like a nasty yellowy sort of colour. O **** I thought, and promptly unplugged my computer. I tried to reboot and the same screen!!!

I was really nervous now as you can probably imagine, I thought the card was toast.

So I decided to remove the VR from the circuit and test see if it would boot stock, and it did and is working fine now.

My question is does anybody think I could have caused any damage to this GPU?

And is there a maximum voltage that these cards will run at? I would like to run mine at this voltage. I remember reading somewhere that they will only work up to a certain voltage and then there is some sort of hard wired protection. How much volts can I push through the card?

Also is there any sort of vdroop mod for these video cards? I would be interested in doing one if it exists.

TIA :)

I am surprised the card boots. The yellow screen is what I saw when I hosed my GTX due to poor contact with an old LN2 tube I mounted to it. I use 1.64 to run it on LN2. Water i don't go above 1.55 and that's normally slightly chilled water where it hits 768 core. I haven't heard of any card that does 1944 shader on anything but LN2 or dice. I guess i could be wrong there.

well my card runs cool, I have a different loop then in my sig, I need to update it but my loop is as follows: D5 > Apogee GT > MCW60 > PA120.3 > MCR320 > DD res > D5 again.

When you say hosed your card do you mean killed it? Because mine is working fine again now totally normal at stock volts/clocks right now.

As far as the shader clocks go I have made my own bios's for the card to adjust the shader and core clocks independtly. Therefore I am able to set it too whatever and that is where it was running nicely.

What temps do you idle/load at under the water at 1.55V? And what do you use to monitor the temps?

If you want to know how to make your own bios to adjust core and shader clocks independlty on these cards then go here:
