So I have a voltmodded EVGA 8800GTX. Its watercooled with Swiftech MCW60.
I have been running it at 1.55V for a couple of weeks, and the temp never goes above 44C. I just check the temps from rivatuner after running 3dMark06. Is that a good indication of full load on a vid card, or is their some sort of max load for a gpu like prime 95 for cpu?
Now today I thought the card used to idle at around 65 and load well into the 70s when it was at stock clocks, volts and cooling. I am nowhere near those temps so I decided to increase the volts to the gpu.
I put 1.7V into it and it was idling at 44C, still fine IMO.
I ran 3dmark06 at 729/1944/999 and it got half way through Proxycon and the screen went like a nasty yellowy sort of colour. O **** I thought, and promptly unplugged my computer. I tried to reboot and the same screen!!!
I was really nervous now as you can probably imagine, I thought the card was toast.
So I decided to remove the VR from the circuit and test see if it would boot stock, and it did and is working fine now.
My question is does anybody think I could have caused any damage to this GPU?
And is there a maximum voltage that these cards will run at? I would like to run mine at this voltage. I remember reading somewhere that they will only work up to a certain voltage and then there is some sort of hard wired protection. How much volts can I push through the card?
Also is there any sort of vdroop mod for these video cards? I would be interested in doing one if it exists.
TIA :)
