ive read the rumours about the upcoming nvidia release being the first PCIE 2.0 card...

this makes me ask the questions, will it be PCIe 1.0 compatible, and if so, how much of a performance decrease will it promote?

I think it just means it fits the normal pci-16 lane but power plugs will be newer 8pin pci-e vs 6pin pci-e currently used.

Just means new PSU for many :D

From what i have read there will not be no lose running the new g98 on the older version, as long as its a 16x speed port that is, currently the 8800 do not max the 16 speed but more near to the 8 x only, posts have shown that a 8800 in sli on a 2 x 16 and running a board that only give 2 x 8 and no gain. Now there is no saying that the high end card that comes out will use more of this bandwidth but the replacement for the gts will not as far as i read.

Nvidia G92 graphics chip to launch in November

Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Thursday 30 August 2007]

Nvidia's G92 mid-range graphics chip is provisionally set to launch on November 12 this year, while the launch date of the entry-level G98 still remains unknown, according to sources at graphics card makers.

Nvidia plans to replace the GeForce 8800GTS series with the G92, while the G98 will replace entry-level products in the GeForce 8 series, noted the sources.

The G92 will support PCI Express 2.0, HDMI, PureVideo Gen 3 and Display Port, while the chip will adopt a 65nm process. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will manufacture the chips.

Despite the new chip designs, G92 and G98 can only be considered an update of the GeForce 8 series since they will not include any major changes, the sources explained.

Nvidia was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

I don't think that many people know that as of now.
But from that I gather from rumored specs the 9800Gtx might use less power then the 8800Gtx. This might be true IF the 9800Gtx will have a 65nm process technology versus the 90nm the 8800Gtx uses.

Judging from what you post about your rig, then yes you should be fine. But I wouldn't recommend adding a lot more hdd or other devises.
Online psu calculators will tell you that you are far from OK (they would probably recommend 800w+ but from my experience those sites always exadurate).
